This is reflective of the attitude Russians have towards Ukrainians. It also shows why the Russians need to be sent completely in rout with a harsh lesson being applied about the inadvisability of abusing their neighbors -- and the need to reform their very poor imperial attitudes.

  4. Given Ukraine’s extraordinary progress, the willingness of Ukrainians to sacrifice for what they believe in, and the importance of unwarranted aggression by Russia to remain unrewarded, I’d say continued, if not increased support of Ukraine by NATO is justified. Zelensky asked for more weapons, we should be accommodative. NATO, including Italy, should stay the course, if not expand sanctions. After all, we can now say resources provided to Ukraine are being well utilized. And then some.

It is critical to remember that Russia’s war machine is still considerable and over confidence by the Ukraine and the West is dangerous. Depending how one may calculate remaining Russian military capability, Russia likely has only allocated about 15% of available capabilities towards Ukraine, even considering depletion of certain weapon systems. It is reasonable to prepare for a major Russian counterattack, perhaps by bolstering reserves by increasing the scope of Ukrainian recruiting efforts, including those who are currently living outside of Ukraine. Hell, maybe some of those who answer the call can bring friends!

Diplomacy is probably far from mosts thoughts now, but once momentum considerably slows, should always be considered because lives and infrastructure on both sides can be saved. As far as Crimea is concerned, in light of recent events, is not it’s value to Russia depreciated?

  5. Ukrainian progress may encourage people in other Russian Republics to take action, especially if Putin reallocates military capability from those regions towards Ukraine. In other words, Putin’s Moby Dick moment may be fast approaching.

That's quite a thread. I didn't see a citation for the initial reference for mimeme/meme.

The link to the various types of language and the rise of the printing press to create the unnatural state of homogeneity is fascinating.

I didn't catch what the Russian "Z" was representative of.

Well. there is no Russian "Z" it is a Latin Z. Russians sometimes use Latin letters, in something like math equations, so they know the Latin alphabet. I believe in the beginning of the war they were marked Z for "zapad" (West) and V for "vostok" (East). And then it just snowballed from there.

  10. That video above (Terr's) had some entertainment value too. One the histrionic guys there who was hyperventilating said (slight paraphrase): "Before the special military operation, one of our military experts said that the greatest danger to our troops if they went into Odessa would be from all of the hugs they would get from the local people. Now he is still out there saying we can win. Why should we listen to him." Yeh. A moment of clarity there.

Putin is in trouble with the nationalists, and realistically he will be doing some ugly stuff to try to recover from his humiliation. So, one should be prepared for that.

Unfortunately, the great Russian Army likes to take it out on the civilians when they are pissed. Expect to see lots of rockets and airstrikes on civilians. All of which they will blame on the Ukrainians of course.

I have not quite figured out what happened to my man Gerasimov. Not sure where and how he is. I do suspect though that Shoigu will be going there soon.
Shoigu is from Tuva so he might wake up tomorrow and decide that he wants to spend more time with the family in Tuva. And Gerasimov might have a bought a place at The Villages in Florida. I doubt it though.

Russian nationalists rage after stunning setback in Ukraine

    MOSCOW IS SILENT
Neither Putin, who is Russia's supreme commander-in-chief of the armed forces, nor Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu had publicly commented on the defeat as of midday on Sunday.
