Russians don't like to admit to being bombed. So they claim that the explosions are due to people smoking inappropriately.
Under the heading of "Coming Events": I will say, yes indeed the assaults on Crimea and the underperformance of the Black Fleet, have Putin wringing his hands plenty, BUT..... Even worse, is the fact that Putin knows that both he and the Ukrainians are now/soon focusing on the heretofore unthinkable- and that is the main bridge leading from the east side of Crimea into Russia- their major supply route in addition to the rail lines up in the donbass- what's left of them. This was not even conceivable just a month ago but since then the Ukrainians have received longer range missiles, and it has clearly been established that the Russian air defenses cannot even protect Sevastopol which is the home port for the Black Fleet. Each missile they fire into Crimea gives them more information about the performance of their missiles, and about the strength and weakness of the air defenses. At some point all that information is going to come together for the Ukrainians and result in a strike on that bridge, which is the jewel in the crown of all the bridges in that area- and it is Crimea's lifeline. Not sure whether they have rail on that bridge as well. Probably. And yes, as with the other bridges, a strike on it would probably only pockmark it, but the psychological trauma to Putin would be major- especially since he would know, as with the other bridges, "it can be revisited" as needed. I don't think the Ukrainians are ready just yet, but how can I know. They have one set of missiles one day, and then another next week these days. Ukrainian Independence Day is coming up next week. You never know when they will decide to send that "gift" to Putin. But it's coming at some point. Guaaaronnnteed, as they say in Louisiana.
A Russian Multiple Rocket Launch vehicle is hit by Ukrainians, causing a fairly spectacular detonation. Pretty.
Oh wait! I return to shamelessly update my own post. I see this little tidbit in an article I was scanning: "Explosions were reported near an airbase Thursday night in Crimea, on the southwest coast near the port city of Sevastopol, the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet. On the opposite end of the peninsula, the sky was also lit up at Kerch near a huge bridge to Russia, in what Russia said was fire from its air defenses." So the Ukrainian missiles are already in the neighborhood trying their luck. The bridge I referenced above is the Kerch Straight Bridge. Yeh, the Ukrainians are preparing an Independence Day gift for Putin next week. Or, as I said, if not then soon. Going to be a lot of pressure on the bridge soon. Apparently they are already so close that they are touching off the air defenses for the bridge. Those air defenses only fired because they had incoming. Putin gonna go bugfuck if it actually gets hit in a way that they cannot hide. Putin continues to push his wacko claims. Why would the Ukrainians shell a nuclear power plant within their own nation? Satellite images show no signs of "systemic shelling" at nuclear plant despite Putin’s claim https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-new...s-08-19-22/h_271106f24ee9b8f1b67a3cd882af37fa There are no signs of "systemic shelling" at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, new satellite images from Maxar Technologies show. This counters Friday's claims by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Ukrainian military was conducting repeated military strikes at the plant. The latest satellite images from Maxar Technologies were taken Friday morning. CNN has analyzed a number of satellite images of the nuclear power plant complex located in Enerhodar, Ukraine, and it shows little to no change in damage or destruction since July 19, when a Ukrainian military strike on three tents just under 1,000 feet from one of the nuclear reactors. Putin made the comments to French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a Kremlin readout of the phone call.
When you look at google maps, look at the Kherson and the closest bridges, - if those are taken out (and even the closest one is bit further then the city) & the winter comes, a Russian soldier will be literally - trapped. No logistics ammo or food & the only option for retreat, frozen water.
