Its certainly not random. High inflation doesn’t just happen in a market as competitive as ours. There has to be factors pushing prices up.

Is it Biden and his influence on crude oil, he may have some influence but certainly not as much as producers not pumping, even though we have plenty of oil in the market. Oil, IMO, was high due to uncertainty from the pandemic. You may recall lots of producers got squashed in the recession. Do you remember $0 barrels of oil? Those were real losses for producers. It will take time for the market to sort out. But I’m not sure Biden is the real reason for producers holding back. The producers in the market like the price they are getting and they don’t want to invest in bringing on new wells.

Dumping hundreds of billions in fiscal stimulus while at the same time restricting the services economy will just push the traditional definition of inflation (too much money chasing too few goods) and voila...there you go.

Throw in a few "you don't have to pay rent or student loans" in for good measure, and its lighter fluid on the charcoal.

That sounds all well and good but usually we prove economic conditions with measurements and mathematics. Don’t get me wrong though, ultimately economics is sociology plus mathematics, but mathematics is still needed.

I hear your theory but what are your measurements? Increases in consumption, spending, money supply? Show and prove otherwise it’s just a guess.

This is what Russia should expect (times 50 or so) if they ever manage to occupy a significant portion of Ukraine:

It has been established that in the period from 20.03 to 12.04.2022 70 Russian soldiers were eliminated during night patrols in temporarily occupied Melitopol.

If you want to start an Inflation Cause thread, I'll be happy to participate. But this isn't a discussion we should have in the Russia/Ukraine thread because it will definitely go off on a long tangent.

  8. same low inflation under Obama as well but you would never utter any praise for Obama holding down inflaion or Bush for increasing it before him.... that is because you are bias. If you failed economics and blame the president then your propganda should be Bush pushed inflation higher but Obama brought it down and trump inched it back up right? But since you are biased you would ignore the charts below and just saw what FOX tells you.

Also inflation is back to Bush levels... not Carter levels...

  9. What I fear though, as I have said before, is that what Russia will do is to follow the Nazi model, where if any soldiers are killed by resistance fighters, then the next day fifty civilians are selected and executed in the town square.

Then rinse and repeat as "needed."

Or course it can be argued that they are already killing every civilian they can find so the Ukrainians have nothing left to fear in regard to incurring their wrath. The Russians are not offering them anything in return for not killing Russians. This is a worse deal than the Nazis offered in many countries.

    Russian propaganda is really amateurish.

Examples: recently there was a video supposedly from Ukrainian marines, lamenting that they cannot go on etc. Part of it was: "Russians have gradually pushed us to the Azovmash factory".

Except of course where the action was was the Azovstal' factory. Azovmash is on the opposite side of the city and was taken by Russians 2 weeks ago.

Example: they publish a video where a "Ukrainian spy" was confessing. Except of course the locals recognized a notorious homeless guy as the "spy" and a supposed reconnaissance unit tattoo was apparently drawn on his arm by a marker - a bat. They forgot that the bat is the Russian reconnaissance symbol, Ukrainians use an owl.

Reminds me of that time when Putin was showing Oliver Stone amazing footage of Russian helicopters crushing Syrian terrorist. Except of course it turned out that the footage was of American Apache helicopters shooting at Taliban.
