The United Nations General Assembly voted to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council Thursday morning despite 24 countries voting no. There were 93 votes in favor of the suspension and 58 abstenstions.

This means of course that Russia suffered yet another consequence of its invasion of Ukraine and atrocities that have led to allegations of war crimes as well as multiple rounds of global sanctions that have isolated President Vladimir Putin and the nation he leads.

The nations that voted no to the resolution, in alphabetical order, include:

    Algeria
    Belarus
    Bolivia
    Burundi
    Central African Republic
    China
    Congo
    Cuba
    North Korea
    Eritrea
    Ethiopia
    Gabon
    Iran
    Kazakhstan
    Kyrgyzstan
    Laos
    Mali
    Nicaragua
    Russia
    Syria
    Tajikistan
    Uzbekistan
    Vietnam
    Zimbabwe

Russia's 247th Air Assault Regiment just had a funeral for 55 troops.

Russian regiments are usually around 800 troops. So - a nice loss rate. This is just the latest funeral. Its commander Konstantin Zizevsky and many troops were killed earlier during the war. Many happy returns.

In other good news, British Harpoon missiles have been delivered to Odessa. Pretty bad news for the Russian ships that have been shelling the city.

  6. One of the reasons why Putin is bringing in the mercenaries is so that no one will be able to do the loss rate calculations that you just did.

The Ukrainians could wipe out 300 syrians or chechnyens/sp in a single day but does anyone think that Russia will be announcing that publicly? Not. Those fighters do not count.

Nope there will be no Russian TV coverage of the syrian kid being buried back in his village in Syria. His buddies will pick over his body to see if there are any cigarettes or coins in his pockets then toss his body in the ditch, at best. It is harder to do with the Russian soldiers because the Ukrainians are calling their moms.

"Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that he does not consider the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO an existential threat to Russia."

So there goes the "NATO expansion" "reason" for Russia's invasion.

My update of Russian losses (using oryx web site)

Note that every piece of equipment listed is documented, with photographs.

    https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html

Their latest is, as of Apr 5, for Russian equipment destroyed (note: separately they keep track of damaged and abandoned/captured equipment as well, but I am being conservative here). I am also ignoring some like Towed Artillery since I can't really estimate personnel losses for those.

    Tanks: 219
    Armored Fighting Vehicles: 134
    Infantry Fighting Vehicles: 272
    APCs: 27
    Typhoons: 11
    Infantry Mobility Vehicles: 48
    Engineering Vehicles: 29
    Self Propelled Artillery: 30
    Multiple Rocket Launchers: 21
Surface to Air Missile Systems: 25
    Aircraft: 19
    Helicopters: 28
    Landing Ships: 1
    Fuel trains: 2
    Trucks/Jeeps: 455

VERY conservatively, knowing the crew sizes of these and the estimate of dead vs wounded in an attack (for example, a tank being destroyed, the 3-man crew is very likely dead but a helicopter - probably 1 or 2), the estimate of Russian KIA is: 4000 or so. Just from these. Very conservatively.

Oryx, of course, cannot document every piece of equipment lost in the field. Optimistically, they may catch 20% of the whole destruction. Let's even say 25%. So - multiply that 4000 at least by 4.

    16,000. That's KIA. Conservative estimate.
