The Republicans may force Trump off the fence. Republicans demand ‘crippling’ sanctions on Russia after brutal drone onslaught in Ukraine: ‘Take action’ https://nypost.com/2025/05/26/us-ne...tions-on-russia-after-brutal-drone-onslaught/ Republican lawmakers are calling for “crippling” sanctions against Russia after Moscow launched its largest-ever drone attack on Ukraine — defying President Trump’s call for an end to the bloodshed. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who is co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill to impose harsh sanctions and tariffs on Russia and its allies, said the assault that killed at least 13 people on Sunday cannot go unpunished. “This latest outrage by Russia will not go unaddressed,” Graham wrote on X. “Without China’s support, Putin’s war machine comes to a halt.” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) also joined his GOP colleague and pleaded directly with the president to join the rest of the Western world in addressing Russia’s increased aggression. “I’ve had enuf [sic] of Putin killing innocent ppl [sic],” Grassley vented on X. “Pres Trump Take action AT LEAST SANCTIONS.” Russia unleashed 355 drones and nine cruise missiles overnight Sunday, the Ukrainian air force said, making it the biggest aerial bombardment in the war to date. The onslaught capped off a brutal three days in which Kremlin forces launched around 900 drones at Ukraine, officials said. Trump — who previously promised he would end the war “on day one” of his second presidential term — slammed Putin as “absolutely crazy” on Sunday, but stopped short of announcing tougher sanctions on the regime. “I’m glad President Trump is finally calling out Putin,” Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) said in a statement to The Post. “It’s beyond time to send them more lethal weapons. This Administration must act now. This war may have started as a Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, but this is now under his watch.” “If Ukraine falls, it will always be known in the history books that it happened with Trump doing little to help Ukraine defend themselves with the means we have available.” The Nebraska Republican also stressed on X that Putin’s “goal is to dominate Ukraine & he won’t stop until he realizes he cannot win.” “The US & Allies must arm Ukraine to the teeth, sanction Russia to the max, & confiscate the $300B in overseas Russian assets,” he added. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), who co-chairs the House Ukraine Caucus, also re-upped his well-worn call for much more stringent sanctions on Moscow. “The United States cannot fail to respond as Putin escalates his barbaric assault on innocent Ukrainians. Congress must act—immediately and decisively,” Fitzpatrick (R-PA) demanded on X Sunday. “We need full, crippling sanctions — targeting Putin, his regime, and those bankrolling this campaign of terror — until the Russian war machine collapses in on itself,” he added. In an impassioned plea on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said things must “change.” “New and strong sanctions against Russia — from the United States, from Europe, and from all those around the world who seek peace — will serve as a guaranteed means of forcing Russia not only to cease fire, but also to show respect,” Zelensky wrote on X. “Putin must start respecting those he talks to. For now, he is simply playing games with diplomacy and with diplomats. That must change,” he declared. Last week, European leaders hit Russia with sanctions over Putin’s refusal to accept a US-backed cease-fire deal. Trump refused to join despite threatening “further sanctions” on Moscow if it continued to reject the peace talks earlier this month. Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the decision as a tactic to keep Russia at the negotiating table despite the commander in chief’s suggestion that the US would end its mediating efforts in Ukraine. However, while Trump hesitates on announcing further action, 81 senators have pledged their support of a bill to impose sanctions against the Kremlin, as well as a 500% tariff on imported goods from countries that buy Russian oil, gas and other products. “Our legislation will isolate Russia — putting it on a trade island by imposing stiff tariffs on other countries that support these atrocities,” Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Graham said in a joint statement on the bill. “While we yearn for peace, it is increasingly clear to us — and a supermajority of the Senate — that Putin is playing games. The United States Senate stands ready to act if these games continue,” they added. Russia was also notably the only country absent from Trump’s list of nations to be slapped with at least a 10% tariff in April. The White House said Russia’s exclusion was down to previously imposed sanctions already preventing “any meaningful trade” with Moscow.
The Wall Street Journal is urging Republicans to openly revolt against Trump's failed Russian policy. Wall Street Journal Shatters Core Trump Fantasy In Editorial Urging GOP ‘Revolt’ “Trump and his advisers fancy themselves” as one thing, but on Russia, they are something totally different, warned the newspaper’s conservative editorial board. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/wall-street-journal-donald-trump-putin_n_68356aafe4b034e8d0515eca The Wall Street Journal on Monday urged Republican senators to take the lead in confronting Russia over its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. It warned that Donald Trump and his allies’ “naivete” on Russian President Vladimir Putin is only allowing the bloodshed to continue. In an editorial titled “Time for a GOP Senate Revolt on Sanctions Against Putin,” the newspaper’s conservative editorial board slammed Trump’s stalled bid for peace, which he promised to bring on day one of his second term. “Trump and his advisers fancy themselves steely-eyed realists on foreign policy,” it wrote. “But on Mr. Putin they are starry-eyed idealists, mouthing ‘peace’ as if they can make it happen by wishing it were so.” The Journal, which has needled Trump repeatedly in recent weeks, said the president, who expressed his surprise this weekend after Russia launched yet another large-scale attack on Ukraine, despite Putin’s lip service to peace talks, is essentially allowing Russia’s authoritarian leader to drag out the invasion. It called on GOP lawmakers to push a bipartisan bill ― co-sponsored by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and signed by dozens of colleagues ― to slap 500% tariffs on products imported into the U.S. from countries that buy Russian oil and gas. The board concluded, “Energy sales are Mr. Putin’s financial lifeline,” and sanctions may change his “calculations about the price of war.” It added that the Senate Republicans “can act whether or not Mr. Trump approves” and force Trump to “face the hard reality” of Putin’s ambitions.

AYO. Fek around and find out. The Taurus KEPD-350[a] is a German-Swedish air-launched cruise missile, manufactured by Taurus Systems and used by Germany, Spain, and South Korea.[2] Taurus Systems GmbH is a partnership between MBDA Deutschland GmbH (formerly LFK) and Saab Bofors Dynamics.[3] In February 2024, there was a discussion among Luftwaffe officers as to how the system could be delivered to Ukraine to target the Crimean Bridge. The Inspector of the Air Force, Generalleutnant Ingo Gerhartz, and three other high-ranking officers prepared a briefing for Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the topic at an online meeting. The conversation was conducted via Webex.[5] A Russian intelligence service, media suspect the GRU, is reported to have intercepted the conversation and published it on the state-controlled channel RT-Deutsch. An English translation of the transcript of the conversation was later posted online, though like various news reports it contains a number of errors.[6] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurus_KEPD_350
