There are others. Yakutia (Sakha Republic) Historical Name: Sakha (still in use) The Yakuts (Sakha people) have their own language and identity. Calling the region Sakha instead of Yakutia (its Russian-imposed name) would emphasize indigenous autonomy. 2. Tuva (Tyva Republic) Historical Name: Tannu-Tuva Tuva was independent until 1944, when Stalin forcibly annexed it. It has a strong nationalist movement today. Switching back to Tannu-Tuva would highlight Russia’s imperialist expansion. 3. Buryatia Historical Name: Buryaad uls Buryats are closely related to Mongols and have an active independence movement. Reverting to their native name would be a direct challenge to Russian control. 4. Chukotka Historical Name: Chukchi Land (Luorawetlan in native tongues) The Chukchi people resisted Russian rule for centuries. A name change could fuel indigenous sovereignty narratives. 5. Vladivostok - Haishenwai (海參崴) Vladivostok was Chinese until 1860, when Russia took it. The original Manchu/Chinese name “Haishenwai” is still known in China. If maps started using that, it would remind everyone that China might want it back.
Ukraine is not a unique case. it is just the largest country attacked so far in Putin's aggression as he seeks to re-establish the Soviet Union. Next up on the menu are all the Baltic countries and all the eastern European nations (Poland, etc.) that were formerly part of the Soviet Union. If Russian is not stopped in Ukraine then these countries are next on the menu -- leading to the start of WW3. The only question will be if Trump honors his NATO commitments or backs Russia.

Witkoff's gushing praise of a president long seen by the United States as an autocratic adversary highlights the dramatic turn in Washington's approach to dealings with the Kremlin since Trump took office for a second presidential term. Witkoff also said Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky was facing tough choices ahead and that the president should recognize it is time for him to "get a deal done" with Moscow. Zelensky is "in a very, very difficult situation, but he's up against a nuclear nation," Witkoff said. "So he's got to know that he's going to get ground down. Now is the best time for him to get a deal done." Witkoff's comments essentially were delivered on friendly ground. Carlson is a controversial former Fox News star who conducted what was widely considered to be a rare but soft interview with Putin last year. Carlson has also been a leading propagator of pro-Kremlin narratives in the United States.

Zelensky doubling down on stupid. He will fight and have the last Ukrainian killed. He will get his wish and Russia will take more territory. Odessa will probably, be taken by the Russians because it is where a lot of attacks on Russia are coming from. Even the F-16s of Ukraine are not flying because Russian SU-35s flying and will destroy them if they show up in their radars. Of course, the Ukraine casualties keep piling up.
