Xi's virtual summit with Macron, Scholz to encourage Europe-Russia direct talks over Ukraine Chinese President Xi Jinping had a virtual summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday in Beijing, supporting France and Germany in promoting a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework for the interests and lasting security of Europe. Xi emphasized the need to jointly support the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, while encouraging the two sides to maintain the momentum of negotiations and calling for maximum restraint to prevent a massive humanitarian crisis. https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202203/1254362.shtml

I don’t know about that but that convoy outside of Kyiv is about to get a lot of attention from both sides.
Probably more too from a couple other similarly situated countries. As I said during the weekend, bringing planes into the equation at a decent level is about the only thing that would cause me to be more recalibrate my view. So good on that I guess. As a related aside, just heard that Selensky has stated that he will commit to not seeking Nato membership and I see him starting right off to take heat for that . I will be having a different view on that beyond the basic "no one wants them in Nato anyway and they were not expecting Nato membership in the near term anyway" which are both true. My thought when I heard that is that it was timed almost to the second with the announcement about the planes which Russia has said that would be an act of war, so they felt it was a good time to flop that out to see if it helped to avoid WWW3 in any way. So I am not going to let "the perfect be the enemy of the good" type of thing. Always good to avoid WWW2 if possible- certainly not guaranteed.
This is interesting. This talk show host is the biggest pro-war cheerleader in Russia. Watch him interview his "military expert". Watch it on youtube so you can see the translation subtitles I put in.
I think way too much is being placed on NATO .... some fantasy organization that allows countries to give jobs to useless people to sit in an office in Brussels or whereever and have a cushy job. Does ukraine need to be in Nato for countries to simply pledge to help Ukraine if they are attacked or need military or humanitarian aid? Not at all as current situation proves. Therefore this whole issue from Putin of invading because of Nato is so silly. Just say ukraine will not be part of nato if it makes little dick putin happy.... Ukraine is getting support from U.S. and Europe anyway without any formal membership in a bullshit fantasy dickless club...
There is a difference between support that may not be there later and a mutual defense treaty. US actually has a few such treaties that are separate from NATO.

U.S. and Ukraine can make a private pact given Russia's aggression. NATO is not enforceable anyway, countries just do what they want.
