Its a small miracle I didn't die or injure my self. I used to make model rockets, too. Got the formula from, you guessed it, Colliers. Charcoal, Sulphur and potassium nitrate. One day I decided it was quicker to drill the cavity for the fuel to burn. If you know anything about solid fuel rockets you know what I'm talking about. So I make a "drill bit" out of coat hanger wire and start drilling the cavity on a small rocket made from the same coat hanger using the cardboard tube. All of a sudden... BAM!. Room filled with smoke and I couldn't see my hand. Thought sure I had blown it up. Ended with 3rd degree burns on my fingers and palm. Full recovery after a week or so.

Multiple occasions where we as kids would make powder. Damn, once made like, who knows how much and what quality, but we had that stuff in a...
    White plastic bucket.
A genius friendo lit it up (facepalm), bucket melted while shining in all kinds of colors.
The main problem was that we did it under a balcon of 9 floors high apartment building and there was a looot of smokes.
Lol, people called firefighters, turns out that we did all of it next to the doors, the leads to tunnels beneath the building (padval in russian), where the heating pipes are located and folks thought that those pipes exploded or smthn.
    Kids.
    With a bucket of powder.

    Lucky to be here too.

Still higher quality, than the one, that russians got from kim jung un.

Yep, growing up in mostly Ireland, access to many fun chemicals was tricky because of the troubles in Northern Ireland however I do recall experiments to make an equivalent to saltpeter using electrical osmosis to refine fertiliser.

The closest I came to losing my eyes was the day I filled up a 6L/6.34 US quart plastic water container with electrolysis produced oxy-hydrogen. Produced in the container itself and unknown pressure build up, not much but above atmospheric. Pretty sure that was from Colliers.

I thought being quite tough plastic the explosion would be somewhat contained and it would rocket upwards, I electrically fired it (high voltage) and detonated instead. I had a moment to appreciate the pretty shockwave taking the frost off the lawn a good bit away, plastic everywhere :)

Fortunately people assumed it was a transformer blowing nearby.

Russian soldiers -- from signing the paper to body bag in 30 days or less.

Russian Recruits Have a Life Expectancy of Just One Month After Enlisting to Serve in Ukraine
    https://www.warhistoryonline.com/news/russo-ukrainian-war-russian-recruits.html

"The average life expectancy of a new Russian recruit is anywhere from just two weeks to one month – and that’s not once they reach the front. Instead, it’s when they sign their contract, as they receive little-to-no training upon enlisting."

The Kremlin keeps breaking new monthly records.

Russian November Combat Losses Set New Records
The Kremlin is paying a butcher’s bill in broken bodies and smashed equipment to keep its offensives in Ukraine’s Donbas and Russia’s Kursk region from stalling.
