A complicating factor if they want to draft age 18 to 24 immediately is that of weapons supply. Soldiers are only useful if they are properly armed. Ukraine has had over a dozen brigades with finished training sitting and twiddling their thumbs due to weapons not showing from Western partners. They won't win the attritional war by adapting Russia's meatgrinder tactics for that matter.

  2. True... but.......also for consideration is the fact that many of the Ukrainian soldiers have been in the field since February of 2022 and desperately need to be rotated out for extended R&R. The new recruits can use the weapons of those who are being rotated out. It does not give you a net increase of men of course but nothing is ideal. The men need a break more than the Russians do because many of the Russians die right off in the meatgrinder. That is their break. Of course the Russians have this great plan to get support from North Koreans but they are as useless as tits on a nun and the Russians have to keep them from deserting to escape to the west. Not the best plan.

It's not that easy in a vacuum. Inexperienced units tend to break when faced with tasks assigned to veteran units.

Although I've read - but am not sure to how widely it applies - about one potentially relevant aspect of the Ukrainian military: recruits are preferably put into entirely new units rather than as continuous reinforcements to veteran units. Sure, they are commanded by experienced commanders but the units tend to be too inexperienced on average.

  5. Yes of course but when you have adequate men to rotate a couple new ones into a platoon of ten and send two home for a couple months. And the rotate a couple more out.......rinse and repeat. I mean you always try to avoid sending a totally green unit into replace a battle hardened unit........even though necessity often requires it.

The men need relief. There needs to be new recruits coming in. They need to lower their recruitment age. It is not an all or none process. New recruits do not necessarily need to be assigned to the most foward positions right out the gate- although there are plenty of men out on the front lines who would say "well, that's what you did to me when the broke out and I have been here since, so why are the new recruits special."

Israel drafts their women too because they are interested in surviving and that's what it looks like sometimes. Not saying that is right for Ukraine but they need to get serious in some areas and have a plan. Americans dumped hundreds of thousands of young, inexperienced soldiers into trenches and on beaches in WW1 and WW2. Ideally they would have been experienced. They weren't. As noted, the ideal is not always possible.

It will probably end war in a month. 18 year olds can't and won't fight.
It was shown in Kursk when Russian 18 year old conscripts surrendered in hundreds without a shot

Russia got their lesson in 3 days removing all young conscripts outside the fighting zone

We definitely see ending of Ukraine Nazi regime.

It's interesting how this brain damaged Sweden Nazi can't comprehend those brigades don't exist

If they ever existed Ukraine wouldn't considered to conscript children

Found out few hrs ago that ussr, offered, us to keep the Kaliningrad.

    Guess why ?

Obviously not out of the good will. That would have been extra pro-rus voters in our politics.

    Historical Context:
    1. Post-War Realignments (1945): After World War II, the Potsdam Conference assigned Königsberg (renamed Kaliningrad) to the Soviet Union. The territory, previously part of East Prussia in Germany, was ceded to the Soviet Union under an agreement with the Allies.

    2. Lithuanian SSR Consideration (1940s-1950s): According to historical records, there were discussions within the Soviet leadership about possibly transferring Kaliningrad to the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR). The rationale was partly logistical: Kaliningrad's proximity to Lithuania and its lack of a direct connection to mainland Russia made such an arrangement seem practical.

    3. Lithuania's Reluctance: Lithuanian leaders reportedly declined the offer, as Kaliningrad was heavily devastated after the war and required significant rebuilding. Additionally, its population consisted largely of Russians and other ethnic groups rather than Lithuanians, which complicated the cultural integration.

    4. Outcome: The Soviet Union ultimately retained Kaliningrad as an exclave of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). Kaliningrad remains a part of Russia today, strategically located on the Baltic Sea, bordering Lithuania and Poland.

  9. Yep. The other factor there is that the Baltic Sea is now known as NATO Lake, since Finland and Sweden joined Nato.

If there are military or political tensions, Putin does not want his fleet or troops anywhere near Kaliningrad. It is a waste of time and resources. Russian dominance or ability to maneuver in the Baltic has gone bye-bye. The whole place is just one big Russia intelligence "listening post" anyway and the nature of intelligence gathering has changed so much in recent decades that it is not as valuable. Of course the Russians there can occasionally cross the border and get a Big Mac at McDonalds so I can see why some of them might want to be there.
