2 years and 300,000 + dead and wounded Russian troops show otherwise.

Russia Offered Indians Passports, Money for Military 'Support Roles' but Sent Men to Front Lines Instead

Most of the world has taken sides in the Russia-Ukraine battle. Now some soldiers claim they were tricked into taking Russia’s side, and one of them may have died as a result.

Knewz.com has learned about a complaint by about a dozen natives of India. It was passed along by the father of one of them, who has been told his son is dead.

Hemal Ashwinbhai last talked with his father Tuesday, February 20. They could only communicate on occasion because mobile phone service is intermittent at the battlefront.

The father says Ashwinbhai was part of a group hired to be "helpers in the military establishment in Russia." They thought they were training, but instead wound up in the line of fire, about 12 miles inside Ukraine.

That led to a missile attack in recent days which killed Ashwinbhai, according to BBC News and The Hindu newspaper in India.

A spokesman for Russia’s Defense Minister said about 100 Indian natives were recruited by the army last year. The Indian foreign ministry confirmed they were “enlisted for support roles.”

A statement from the Indian government Monday, February 26 said that it has intervened for several citizens who say they were duped by the Kremlin.

“Several Indians have already been discharged as a result,” the statement said. But in one case, an Indian native abandoned the military and hurried home.

Russian recruiters reportedly are offering a lot of money for people in South Asia and Persian Gulf states to join the fight. They also promise Russian passports in a matter of months.

One father in India said he saw a recruitment video “offering jobs in Russia with a promised salary of 90,000 to 100,000 rupees, compared to their current earnings of 35,000 to 40,000 rupees.”

In United States terms, they would be paid about $1,200 a month instead of $400 in a factory. But the agent reportedly charged a sign-up fee to recruits of more than $3,500.

The Indian government officially is neutral in the Russia-Ukraine fighting. But Knewz.com reported in December 2023 that Indian diplomats talked in Moscow about joining In the production of military equipment.

“I have said that it is not an era of war,” the Mint website quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as saying in July 2023. “We have urged both sides to resolve issues through dialogue and diplomacy.”

But a few native Indians volunteered to fight for Ukraine when the Russian “special military operation” began two years ago.

The Indian foreign ministry statement recommended all residents should "exercise due caution and stay away from this conflict.”

For men living in rural areas of India there is a lack of jobs and the pay is much higher in Russia. Some of these men figure they can make some money from these "military support roles" in Ukraine, get a Russian passport, and then move to Russia where there are numerous jobs available due to a manpower shortage in the labor market (caused primarily by the war and demographic changes).

The reality is that the Russians send these foreigners directly to the front line with little training as meat for Putin's machine. Usually they are killed and many times they are not paid either.

  6. We should spend some time learning what motivates our enemies. We're waging war to expand influence and power while making bank of course. They're fighting to protect their sovereignty. It's why we have lost every war since WWII, and it's why we're ultimately backing a loser in Ukraine. NATO expansion is the path to another world war which may not be confined to Europe this time around.
