Ukraine's military says it has shot down a Russian military spy plane over the Sea of Azov, in what analysts say would be a blow to Moscow's air power.

Army chief Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi said the air force had "destroyed" an A-50 long range radar detection aircraft, and an Il-22 air control centre.

The A-50 detects air defences and coordinates targets for Russian jets.

In February last year, Belarusian opposition group BYPOL claimed to have damaged an A-50 military plane in a drone attack near Minsk.

    ********

The A-50 is an early warning and control aircraft with a large radar capable of spotting air targets at distances of up to 650 kilometers (400 miles). It has a crew of 15. The Russian air force reportedly has been operating a fleet of nine such aircraft.

I think it was a Patriot system that helped it to convert.

    $330 Mil per plane.

  6. Even the NYT has had multiple articles acknowledging that the Ukrainian army is in shambles, a third of them "drunks that woke up in uniform", better than half a million dead and losing ground.
Can't trade the Russkies body for body and win. Can't continue without a blank check from Corpse Biden and that only delays the inevitable loss for Ukraine. It's over, it's been over and every intellectually honest person knows it and has known it from the jump.

No.For one they aren't going body for body, there are far more dead and wounded Russians than Ukrainians.Ukraine can out last Russia if The US and NATO keep supplying them weapons as they have the last 2 years.

The outcome of this war will be decided in November based on who wins the The US presidential election.Anybody but Trump wins in Nov Russia will withdraw and Putin is removed from power and the new leadership places all the blame on him,he might even get The Mussolini treatment.

If Trump wins of course he will save Putin by ending aid to Ukraine.Russia is the one that cant last must longer if NATO helps Ukraine, they have to get malfunctioning weapons from N Korea and reuse dead troops uniforms for Christ sakes.

30,000 Soldiers join the Russian army each month. This just about keeps equal with the Russian losses on dead and wounded each month. Many of Russian conscripts gathered up from the streets, prisons, or from foreigner present in Russia -- complete with threats to make them serve and the carrot of "high pay" which many times does not appear despite the promises made to them.

The quality of the Russian troops is much lower than Ukrainian troops. Every army will have its share of drunks, criminals, etc. when they are basically sweeping conscripts from the street. However the Ukrainian army on whole is much more motivated, better trained, and has better equipment.

30,000 Russians per month join the military, says Ukrainian intelligence

Let's see how Putin persuades inmates to sign up for the army.

Putin ‘turns off heating in -55C Russian jails’ to force inmates to fight in Ukraine
The Russian president reportedly wants to boost his army with mass murderers and other dangerous criminals - making jail conditions even harsher to force them into fighting

At the same time -- most of Russia is drunk off its ass. I guess it's the only way to stay warm when you have no electricity or heat.
