IMO it ain't wokeism but low unemployment/strong economy that is affecting military recruitment most.

You mean right wingers believe and propagate it like the 'stolen election' claim, where is the data to support this? Why did recruitment fall under Trump if this was the case? Just more nonsense.

Even though your woke brothers and sisters hardly know how to fix themselves an avocado sandwich, let alone undergoing boot camp. Good luck getting the internet and mobile phone app addicted generation to grab and shoot an arm. lol.

  8. Both the Biden and Obama Administrations used or are using regulations, including tax codes as a political tool to redistribute wealth from the productive to the less or non productive. Less or non productive includes campaign contributions, to a certain extent. I say to a certain extent because it is known that lobbying has a very high return on investment. More so than almost any other form of capital investment.

A system that becomes based on who you know versus what you do is structurally headed for failure. If Trump was not elected when he was, the continuation of Obama policies may have caused lasting economic hardship. Businesses were afraid to invest during Obama's Presidency because of regulatory uncertainty. The Federal Reserve had to expand the balance sheet by 4 trillion dollars and adopt a zero interest rate policy, among other extraordinary measures. But Bush? Yes we were headed down during towards the end of his term, in part through policy established during the Clinton Administration related to loosened mortgage underwriting standards.

The economic challenge during the Obama Presidency was the historically tepid recovery after the Great Recession. The fear of investment is what I'm talking about. At least Biden has been better than Obama in that regard, perhaps some lessons were learned, but "Pay to play" will ultimately result in a less competition, more cronyism, and higher inflation. Again, who feels inflation the most? Yes, those on fixed income and the working class, many of whom are part the Democrat base.

How about this idea: Businesses should be regulated such that bad ethics are disincentivized while maintaining an environment that is favorable for investment. Nah, our current political system seems to thrive on disfunction. For a while, anyway.

As Russia may find out with their war in Ukraine, that economic base ultimately dictates military capability, we may find out in a possible future war against China. The US lost in Asia in the 1970's with the economic and military advantage. What do you think happens in Asia if we lose both? Competence matters. Ethics matters. Culture matters. Policy matters. Voting decisions matter.

  9. We are good for now. Our defense contractors, although always whining for more Government contracts, are being kept somewhat busy by the war in Ukraine. I suppose after the war in Ukraine ends, we will discover Democracy is not being properly administered in a Mideast or African country and feel morally compelled to intervene.
