Not only are the hardliners- once again- telling Putin and Shoigu to support Prigo, but the Butcher of Mariupol General who Putin fired last week is now working with Wagner and in charge at Bakhmut. Prigo wants Putin's job and the Butcher General wants Shoigu's job. They are making some progress too. Of course, the Ukrainians get to have a say in it. If the Russians are defeated at Bakhmut, well, then that makes Prigo's plans more difficult. The winners are also the Ukrainian soldiers in the other counteroffensives to come. Russia does not have the supplies and arms to ramp up more in Bakhmut without taking it from another conflict zone. Russia may take Bakhmut, but then they will look over and see the Ukrainian soldiers in control at the land bridge to Crimea. No free lunch here for the Russians in Bakhmut even if they take it.
