Doesnt make their reasons nefarious. Consider the alternative - if the Ukranians have no weapons to fight with then Russia have no reason to invade and kill. If Russia do invade these defenceless innocent people who have no guns, well then that justifies full on war from the US who are no doubt chomping at the bit for some good old military action.

So yeah - the message might be to please not escalate the situation by providing more guns.

Are you saying that a Swift ban could bring an end to the invasion or reduce Ukrainian slaughter?

Doesn't a swift ban just slow things down?

I think Putin is prepared for this and any type of sanction, markets, protests from people in the street, crisis, oligarchs complaining directly...

To me it looks like Europe is the battle ground between Russia and USA. Where the lines are marked. Now with Ukraine invasion Russia is moving that line back a bit.

I just hope things do not escalate to global military intervention.

SWIFT ban will create misery in Russia. Right now Russians are just working, watching TV, everything is normal. Make the life of an average Russian as hard as possible. When their bank cannot issue funds, they've lost their jobs and are running out of cash, they will turn against Putin. This is the only way.

It's either a nuclear war or forcing Russians themselves to overthrow their government, there's no third option.

It should escalate to be global. What do you think, Russia will stop after this? For Putin, this is a success, he already used the same blueprint for Georgia, Ukrainian Crimea and not Ukraine as a whole. Next is Poland, Baltics, Finland and then Germany. He is determined to go down as the tsar of Russia, collateral damage is irrelevant.

China was watching this, to see what happens when they soon attack Taiwan. The western countries sent a signal that Russia and China can do whatever they want, west will just issue a few toothless sanctions.

You have zero idea what you're talking about.
Russians only respect strength, if you're weak, you're just inviting Russians, you're just making it easy.

If Ukraine was armed to the teeth much earlier, this would have likely been avoided as Russian casualties would have been too high.

This event proved Putin and Xi right, west is weak and all talk.

Russia is nothing if they cannot sell their resources. Who do you think buys most of their resources? Without money, resources mean nothing because Russia is not self-sufficient.

Thanks for reinforcing my original thought :D

If you are weak the Russians will invade. This is exactly why Germany doesn't want guns supplied to Ukrainians..... Can't you see? A weak ukrania invaded by the ruskies JUSTIFIES the west going to war. How else the west gonna justify another huuuuge military budget?

Swift does not run the world. There are other ways, slower but functional. maybe a Monday to Friday 9 to 5, I think Russia has SPFS as alternative. I don't see how this ban will hit the coon Russia watching TV and drinking vodka, or how he will lose his job.
    I wish.

I guess you also think that “Gun free zones” make everyone safe from guns?

This has nearly nothing to do with the west. This is about Putin retiring as the tsar of Russia and the conqueror of Europe, not just a leader. You're too focused on your local squabbles to see the bigger picture.

All transfers are based on SWIFT. Russian alternative isn't integrated with anything else besides China but prove me wrong. There's a lot of western money flowing through SWIFT towards Russia every second. You don't need to directly hit each Russian coon but indirectly it will make a difference.
When random Russians, say getting paid by Youtube, start losing their income because of something Putin started, it will increase frustration and frustration eventually leads to action.
