Russa Invades Georgia - Full Scale Invasion

Discussion in 'Politics' started by THE-BEAKER, Aug 8, 2008.

  1. That's insane. Russia invades Georgia and the US military has yet to make a move?????

If it was NY or California the US military wouldn't be sitting on their asses.

  2. Another loser in this conflict is the EU.

The EU has a lot to gain with increased economic activity with Russia, and little to lose with a stronger Russia - economically that is. The EU seeks stability for Russia and all the regions close to Europe for continued growth.

The "winners" are Georgia (in the long run by approximation to the west) and the US by destabilizing the region and asserting it's influence.

The biggest losers are the ethnic minorities in play.

    forex-forex,
a good thing it's not Paris in Texas being invaded ... hehe. :D

  3. Here is an interesting little snippet from Debka:

"Georgian tanks and infantry, aided by Israeli military advisers, captured the capital of breakaway South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, early Friday, Aug. 8, bringing the Georgian-Russian conflict over the province to a military climax."

    http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=1358

While anything on Debka needs to be taken with a grain of salt, I cannot think of a reason that they would make this up.

  4. All this will obviously do wonders for Russia-Israeli relations (irony) ...

Other than destabilizing the region and poking at Europe - what can possibly Israel gain by helping Georgia attack the civilians in the ethnic minority regions?

Anyone have some inkling on what is going on there? Is it simply helping the US get stronger helps Israel in the end?

  5. Ah, I got some more information about the Israeli interests in the region ...

Apparently, Georgia is also strategic in stemming Iran's influence in the region. That explains a little more - but not exactly why Israel would favour Georgia attacking the civilian ethnic minorities - who are not arabs by any standard.

Well, the Debka article also states the Israeli's interests in getting the newly planned oil pipeline terminated in areas and terminals controlled by them ...

What a fucking disgrace this conflict really is ...

  6. The Israeli army is considered to be among the best (if not the best) in the world so I don't understand why you are surprised that they are helping friendly democratic pro-western allies like Georgia to train their troops. In fact it is not a secret, it's public knowledge and Israel is quite proud to have helped Georgia build their army. That does not mean that Israel has anything to do with the conflict or has any stake in it, let alone the fact that Georgia did not attack Russia, it was Russia who invaded Georgia.

  7. The Russian military has said that some of the dead amongst the Georgian troops are foreigners. Maybe Israelis ?

As for stemming Iran's influence, it doesn't look like Georgia will be stemming much at all in the immediate future.

  8. Err... what has supposed military prowess got to do with democracy ?

  9. How about democratic allies are helping each other in military matters.

And you still did not explain why you are surprised. The Israeli military professionals are training Georgian troops. What's wrong with that, what does it have to do with the current conflict and Russian invasion?

Btw the Israeli military personnel is in high demand, they help train troops and security forces all over the world. They are not setting policies or starting wars in those countries, they are training troops. Why is it a problem with you?

  10. How does the Israeli navy do? Are they among the world's finest? How do Israelis do in winter conditions? How do Israelis do in mountainous areas or jungles? I do think the IDF is pretty limited on some fields of expertise, if I can beg your pardon, thank you.

The Israeli interests in getting the oil pipeline terminated on their grounds and then helping Georgia attack the civilian ethnic minorities in Ossetia is a complete and disgusting disgrace.
