Jeff Cooper has a saying," Stocks don't move, they are moved." What looks like big volume on this dollar stock is a couple of hundred thousand dollars total. The reasons for this volume "spike" and price jump could be many and varied, but heavy mutual fund buying is not likely one of them. Few funds mess with dollar stocks. More logical reasons might be some pump and dump scheme designed to put the name on various scanners, front running by insiders, rumors or a legitimate corporate announcement. One thing's certain, someone knows a lot more than you do and they aren't likely to give you a headsup before they sell.
