As an aside, Biden was just on Bloomberg (and I suspect, elsewhere) right this minute saying to protect yourself against Covid and Omicron by getting vaccinated.
Well that kind of phrasing does have truth as the vaccine is intended to boost yuour adaptive immune system to back up your innate immune system. Quote: "The mRNA vaccines do not contain any live virus. After making the protein piece, cells display it on their surface. Our immune system then recognizes that it does not belong there and responds to get rid of it. So the vaccine works to acheive the same result as something like the flu where it teaches your body to create the antibodies necessary to fight the virus once it is identified again in the future (like if you catch it). Therefore it is a form of protection against more severe symptoms as well as reducing viral load to an extent since your body can defeat it sooner and quicker. The Flu vaccine is a protection against the flu but no one ever said the Flu vaccine will prevent you from getting the flu. I am ok with the phrase protect you against COVID but not if our general U.S. population is dumb enough to think it means you cannot catch it at all.
The Polio vaccine better protect me from getting polio. Same with measles, mumps, shingles, Hep A/B/C, DTaP, Rubella, etc Flu vaccine also does prevent you from getting flu, if they get the strain right. Problem is, half the time* they don't.
You do realize the breakthrough rate of the measles and mumps vaccines are 3% in an environment where the diseases are highly prevalent. This is higher than the Covid vaccination breakthrough rate of below 0.5% (prior to Omicron). Bottom line: The Covid vaccine protects you better than many other vaccines against diseases (noting this many change with Omicron). Fortunately for most of society we have reached herd immunity for many other diseases -- some like smallpox we have wiped off the face of the earth. Sadly -- thanks to anti-vaxxers -- we have no chance of achieving herd immunity for Covid so it is likely to settle in as an endemic long-term.
you never did prove the breakthrough on measles and mumps, but that's ok. The breakthrough for the COVID vaccine is much, much higher. I remember when you tried to claim it was .16% or something. What a laugh that was.
The Covid data is very clear -- Go read the KFF and CDC data on Covid vaccinated breakthrough rate. It is the largest publicly available dataset on the face of the earth in terms of the millions of people covered.
