  1. “We, the privileged people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect class distinction, establish justice for those who can afford it, insure domestic tranquility in gated communities, provide for the common defense of the upper class, promote the specific welfare of the "haves", and secure the blessings of liberty for the "haves" to write the laws for ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

How about those that move to the US from another country?

How about those that lose their employer subsidized insurance through no fault of their own?

How about a dozen other scenarios that leaves people looking for insurance with a pre-existing condition?

  4. Our pop. is around 300M. Th unisured is around 50M. Out of that 50M, 10M are illegals and 20M can afford to insure themselves, but would rather buy a motorcycle and a 12-pack. So that leaves about 20M.

Again, why screw the rest of us? Although the libertarian in me says "no freebies", I say give them insurance cards and be done with it.

  5. The gun nuts are actually hoping for that.

They have armed themselves, they are just itching for live target practice on some poor folk who invade their property looking for food and shelter...

  6. "Let them eat pancakes, then choke to death on the pancakes because they can't afford a doctor to save them."

If you don't get HC through your employer you can't afford -- simple as that. The pricing model the insurance companies use guarantees you can't afford it because a group of 100 people gets a different price than a group of 1, or a group of 1 family.

The price to offset risk should be based on the population rather than the individual policy but that basically gets us to the direction we're heading anyway -- socialized medicine.

And then, God forbid you have a heart attack or develop some chronic illness. Then, THEN, if you thought you couldn't afford it before........

  8. I just answered this in my last post:

"Our pop. is around 300M. Th unisured is around 50M. Out of that 50M, 10M are illegals and 20M can afford to insure themselves, but would rather buy a motorcycle and a 12-pack. So that leaves about 20M.

  9. There are certainly people who abuse the system. People who would rather spend their money on motorcycles and six packs instead of saving their money in case of a health emergency. But the majority of people that would be helped are in need of help not because they are lazy or incompetent, but because of the circumstances they find themselves in.

Also, that guy who is spending money on motorcycles and six packs likely couldn't afford a major medical procedure even if he didn't buy the motorcycle and six packs.

  10. I wager most of the folks who are commenting in this thread are young and have never had to deal with the real cost of health care...especially with private health insurance.

Even those who are insured, are not fully insured, nor can they afford many of the treatments recommended upon a diagnosis...

This thread reminds me of the chicken hawk republicans who were gung ho on the Iraq war...knowing they or their families would not have to risk their lives in that war...

These people have no problem watching the lives of other people get ruined...
