you seem not very knowledgable about the american system. i live in a tourist area. every year they ship in young people from the poorer parts of europe to fill the summer jobs. i was waited on by a nice young lady from latvia yesterday. i asked her about her situation. she makes 7.50 an hour and has no benefits. welcome to america.
Most large cats in captivity are bored and depressed. Many are on anxiety/depression medication (Prozac, Haldol, Anafranil). They continue to try to escape until the day they die. That's the dirty little secret that zoos and preserves don't want you to know. Large cats need large territories to be mentally and emotionally stable. No zoo can provide that despite the lush landscaping, fancy brochures and glowing press releases. There's nothing "civilized" about it. If those tigers could talk they would say: Live free or die.
amen Every Orca I know gladly exchanges its freedom for free ice cream and health care. Every once in a while... killing their trainers...that's just more proof we need bigger sea world.
It is pretty sad to learn that the cats are sedated. I did not know that. Its hard to believe that somebody could actually believe that tigers, lions, leopards or any large predators are happy or better off in captivity but I've come to expect total backwardness and foolishness from FreeThinker. Something in his head just doesn't work right in my opinion. Instead of requiring voters to show some form of ID we should instead introduce a new type of ballot that has a short series of basic intelligence questions at the beginning or "qualifiying questions" that could be used to allow or disallow that ballot from consideration in the election. If the voter was seriously stupid and his/her answers indicated intelligence below some acceptable limit that ballot could be omitted from the vote counting process. It would probably change the country for the better.
Technically, they're not sedated (e.g., with valium), but they're often given anti-anxiety or anti-depression medications. It's a minor but important distinction. Sedating the tiger would make it completely inactive and uninteresting to the viewing public. Tigers in the wild have a territory that can be as large as 5 to 30 square miles. They have a deep instinct to acquire, patrol and defend that territory. Even in a large nice-looking zoo exhibit, tigers often feel confined and get anxious. Normal cat behaviors become accentuated as their need to roam is suppressed. For example, "excessive grooming" is a common problem. Normal cats groom themselves to stay clean. An anxious or depressed cat will groom itself excessively to the point that it licks all the hair off large spots on its body (making it unpresentable to the public). Sometimes large cats will pace incessantly in a small section of what appear to be a large exhibit. The animal feels penned in and engages in neurotic behavior such a constant pacing or pawing and digging. Or sometimes they become depressed and just sit around and sulk. These problems are often treated with anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medications. Big cats are not happy when they're confined, even in what looks like a nice environment to you and me.
I love Tigers. It saddens me that they have to go crazy in captivity or be killed to the point of near extinction by poachers in the wild
Intrade was looking real good on the supreme court call. I know you like Intrade because it has your guy in the lead... but it sucked on the supreme court call and IMO it sucks on this race because the race is thin. Besides if the betting public was correct would bookies really be in business.
