Rolling a futures contract

is manually close a position and reestablish position the only way to roll a futures position in a expiring month to the next contract?

any broker that roll the position automatically?

 

Full Service brokers would be happy to do the rollovers for you. They usually charge more than "discount" brokers or "direct access" (a/k/a do it yourself) brokers, however.

 

you can trade a calendar spread, e.g. with IB TWS. of course you pay commissions on both sides...

 

Many contracts are "Cash" settled, so all you would have to do is re-open the forward contract at expiration, not exactly labor intensive!
