RM's occasional market calls...

  1. Good calls are not banter & entertainment, they are sources of potential profit. If I want entertainment I got to a bar or a racetrack, not a finance message board.

Obviously. Hence why I actually trade on this one guy's particular calls.

The "entertainment" I'm speaking of is in seeing someone confident take risk and succeed. Moreseo if you respect her/him as a person.

It's the same way it was entertaining to watch someone deeply flawed, like stock_trad3r, flail around calling tops.

Hey, I went from very active prop to much longer time frame trading to accommodate side work. But still find the shit that happens in the market, and how people succeed and lose at trading due to who they are, interesting.

  3. Rearden, excellent call on ADT. Are you still holding the Jan puts or did you cover most of them today when you rolled?

  4. I covered a third of the Jan '14 puts, and also rolled the strikes down on the June bear spread as I mentioned before. I think you know how I intend to play this going forward- reduce size on sharp drops, and add size on bounces...

  5. Fair enough - in hindsight I might have come off as a bit rude, sorry if so. Just I think there are some valuable nuggets on here even though a lot of dross! Anyway, good trading - and nice call Rearden.

  6. That 44/48 put spread can only gain 15% here, but it's nicely ITM.

No worries, same page there. In fact, my entry price in gold yesterday was based on something I picked up from ET many years ago: mid-point of a high-volume, wide range bar, with declining volume in the pull-back. Almost never trade from chart setups alone, but that's been an old standby for highly volatile moves.

Same goes for a key insight in how I model my spreads. Given that an old edge was eroded over time by public knowledge, I'm more old school now in relying on no one else but my own psychology and skills. But 95% of my time on ET is just due to missing the shop talk from the trading desk I was on.

Anyway, I'll cease derailing RM's thread. The good stuff here has nothing to do with me.

This is not predicting the future, this is observing the future.

Now the Eigenvectors I calculated for ADT are: (05, 05)/50-61.80 and ...

The loose interpretation is that ADT may take 5 green bars or 5 red bars bouncing back to 50.00%-61.80% Fib level (03/14/13 - 05/01/13) and then there will be 40 red bars down...

To observe or not to observe? :D
