He was an incredible drummer obviously, but what a lot of folks don't know was he was deeply deeply philosophical and he wrote most of Rush's lyrics. His lyrics on 2112 (side one in fact one of my fav album sides of all time) was strong influenced by the works of Ayn Rand. (He said that in an interview once) At one point he'd had enough, walked away from the band and toured all of N America and Central America on a motorcycle. Logged like 50K miles or something crazy like that. I remember hearing about it back in the day. No one knew who he was of course... he just looked like a biker. Pretty cool really. I had no idea he passed. Good one B1. EDIT: Reader.... next time you're in a bar with a Touch-Tunes jukebox... bring up Rush and play 2112... I don't think Touch-Tunes knows it, but for one play you get the entire album side lol. 20 plus minutes. Doesn't necessarily go over well in all circumstances. em. Great album side. 5:00 And the meek shall inherit the earth We've taken care of everything The words you read, the songs you sing The pictures that give pleasure to your eye It's one for all, and all for one We work together, common son Never need to wonder how or why
There will never again be drumming talent, and creativity through writing, on this level in music. One of the last great ones. A sad day for fans of "beats".
Neil Peart... damn. He crafted his drum compositions really good for the songs. I've seen Rush live many times.
When enough time has passed, this may allow Grohl to join Alex and Geddy and see them tour and/or record again.
