The last great screwball pitcher. I think he learned it from the guy who really created it (his name eludes me). The popularity of Valenzuela in Chavez Ravine was interesting because if you know Mexican culture, Soccer & Boxing are more popular than baseball. MLB hasn't really had many Mexican stars and he remains an anomaly. Most Latino stars are from the Carribean or Panama.
I love the early days of "talkies" in Hollywood. That was the golden era. So many great movies & stars. 1929 up until the early 1940s was the best era especially for optimistic movies. Amazingly it is hard to find movies in the 1930s that cover the Depression itself. I think It's A Wonderful Life is the only movie that really covered it in any depth. There were so many seemingly endless parade of stars. I think the best were the musicals back then and even movies that had a lot of singing & dancing that weren't strictly musicals like Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire films. I think the post-WWII era brought more realism & less escapism especially with the popularity of Film Noir.
