Population is more important than land mass. The people of DC don't want that,they want their own state with the rights that come with it.The people of Maryland don't want to have to deal with all those new residents.
The Constitution does not say it had to be.Point is Congress can define the size of DC up to 10 miles sq.
That is the precedent. And if Maryland would not agree to it, then DC would remain the way it is now. These are just the facts.
There is a better argument there as most states have become states after being territories. DC cannot be made a state however as it's unconstitutional.
Were that the case, then LA, NY and Chicago could be made states. By the way, that would actually help Republicans in Congreff and The Electoral College.
DC would be resized for just The Federal Government ,a new state state would be created.Totally constitutional.
