Riddle Me This - Wuhan is Ground Zero but Beijing/Shanghai OK..

  1. I am not going down the road on conspiracy theories but the information raises a lot of questions to which there are no answers because it relies on China being honest.

But still very troubling that China contained it to Hubei province but let it get out to the rest of the world and we are suffering while they are mostly open.

    It's not over yet...

One of China's newest battlegrounds against coronavirus is the northeastern province of Heilongjiang and the 80,000-person city of Suifenhe on the Russian border. Dozens of the country's newest cases returned through the remote, frontier crossing. The border is now closed to travelers, Suifenhe is on lockdown and a new 600-bed hospital for the expected infected is near completion.

Meanwhile, in China's central Henan province, reinfection is the worry. In one county, 600,000 people are now on lockdown after a doctor returning from Wuhan tested positive. Despite 14 days of self-isolation, she reportedly passed the virus to colleagues and a classmate. Similar to Suifenhe, all businesses in Jia county are closed except for essential services. Social media images show blocked roads and empty streets, echoing the 76-day lockdown of Wuhan which was lifted less than a week ago.

="El OchoCinco, post: 5074580, member: 35483"]So Wuhan is where all this shit started....let's assume these numbers are real for shiggles:

As of April 12, 2020, Shanghai, China’s financial hub, has reported 607 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the Chinese capital of Beijing has reported 589 confirmed cases, according to statistics from China's National Health Commission published by state news agency Xinhua.

Wuhan starts the shit and the two largest cities in China, among the largest in the World have basically no cases (sorry but a population of 8 to 10 million and 600 is not even a hair on the fly on the tail of the dog.

    Meanwhile:

    View attachment 225386

Most of those China cases....Wuhan 67,000 cases and 3,000 deaths. The rest is a blip.

    So.. riddle me this questions:

    1. China's numbers are bullshit that Wuhan gets hit and the rest of China avoids anything while Europe and U.S. are drowning in cases relatively?
The most concerning issue would be if the COVID-19 was released on purpose by the Chinese to create a change in the geopolitical arena, especially with the US Presidential elections coming up, with the outbreak in Wuhan a distraction to create plausible deniability concerning Chinese leadership authorizing a biological attack on a global scale.

It is not hard to come up with reasons why a densely populated country like China would want to avoid playing with biological weapons and the well-known inherent ability of viruses to mutate into more dangerous pathogens. Besides, things are generally going China’s way in their long term goal for global influence. Sure there are serious protests in Hong Kong, but are these protests considered by Chinese leadership to be a systemic threat? A threat best addressed by a biological attack as a point maker? My impression is that the system of Chinese leadership has remained in power for decades through ruthlessness and, not or, well thought through decisions. The release of a biological weapons creates a huge surface area of risk that would make it nearly impossible to gage outcomes. There seems to be no reason to believe Chinese leadership consider itself to be in a desperate situation right now and would resort to such an extreme measure.

If the release was from a bio lab, it would not have to been sanctioned and may more likely been the result of a violation of established procedures. An example would be a low level employee with a gambling problem tasked with disposing dead animal test subjects. Instead of incinerating the animals, this employee sells them to a vendor in a wet market.

    2. CHina knew far in advance and took quick actions but it got out of hand in Wuhan and could no longer hide it from the rest of hte world and too many people already left china and spread it. So they avoided major shit in their own country but let it spread by trying to cover it up.
Great observation. How would the Chinese leadership know how serious this disease was so quickly when the West is only now finally figuring it out? This would seem to imply the source of the infection was from a bio testing or weapons facility or that the Chinese wanted to use the outbreak in creating an narrative to influence geopolitics. My take is the latter is very unlikely because in a “Natural” outbreak the Chinese woukd take time to realize what they were dealing.

Most likely in my opinion, was the doctors expressed their concern over symptoms of COVID-19 to Chinese leadership. Chinese leadership was convinced it was necessary to take decisive action, which was reported early on by our news media, by the way. I don’t mean to sound like an China apologist, but it seems like a blame game is going on right now.

    3. There was a purpose to release this and spread it to the Western World while limiting affect in China except it get a little out of hand in Wuhan so collateral damage and they locked shit down.
    Addressed earlier.

    4. There is not analysis of these numbers that puts China in a good light at all and does not lead me to conclude that China caused this, China covered this up, China protected its own while letting the rest of us go up to 6 weeks with no warning (i.e. people were carrying it out of China since December but it got conflated with flu sysmptoms and fatalities until Corona was confirmed), and China cna go fuck themselves as I enter week 5 of being at home.
It is my opinion China does value its standing the the global community and would not frivolously jeopardize that position. I can well imagine Chinese leadership being receptive to reforms including bioweapons lab procedures, wet market practices and or sanitation standards, and animal husbandry practices. if the Chinese are not receptive to reforms, then the global community has the moral authority to impose sanctions upon the Chinese. Either way, the West needs to make their own appropriate reforms to avoid becoming a victim of Chinese or other viruses in the future.

I would love for someone to prove me wrong but numbers, be they false or true lead to the same conclusion.....fucking China.
To me, it is more about intent and motivation than about numbers. Perhaps someone with more time available than myself can create a timeline of relevant events or at least review the timeline on wikipedia.org.

    Entropy:

My goal of this post is to attempt to provide plausible explanations to your questions and to discuss other relevant issues concerning COV-19 such as appropriate policies going forward to mitigate future outbreaks, whether they are caused by neglect or by design.

For the purposes of this discussion, and perhaps beyond, I will use a framework to analyze the various issues involved. The framework I have in mind will make it easier to analyze the motivations of the players in this crisis as well as the processes involved. This framework involves systems analysis and the definition of systems here is any organized activity, whether intelligent designed or not, that utilizes energy or other another driving force, and has the ability or goal to influence other systems.

Systems range in scale from macro to micro and for the purposes of this discussion include lifeforms as a species down to an individual, viruses, and on to ideas such as religion, political philosophies, business and trading plans, and so on.

Systems of various kinds vary in efficiency, robustness, adaptability, reliability, and other attributes. By efficiency, I mean the ability of the system to achieve its primary purpose or function with comparably few resources versus competing systems. Robustness involves the inherent ability of the system to resist the influence of other systems. Adaptability relates to the ability or speed of a system to adjust to an changing environment or the influence of another system. Environment here applies to nature as well as general conditions surrounding human designed systems. Reliability relates to the consistency or predictability in performance of a system as it is subjected to various inputs.

Systems can be effective or fail due to environmental changes or through evolution of that or other systems.

We live in a system of systems where the proper functioning of one system is often dependent upon another system. Some systems have the design or function to utilize another system, often to that other system’s detriment. Example, a pack of wolves eating a cow. A cow can be considered an efficient system, but not a particularly robust one.

Most of the major systems in play in the COV-19 crisis include: the COVID-19 virus, the Chinese Communist Party, The World Health Organization, Chinese researchers, US Republican Party, US Democratic Party, Us Executive Office, US Congress, and the US media. Other systems become relevant when discussing alternative, or conspiracy theories, but will mostly not be covered in this post.

COVID-19 is a system evolved from SARS either naturally or by intelligent inputs, that functions by utilizing the resources of another system, causing complete system failure in some individual cases, but as a whole, not a major threat on a species wide level. At issue here is the cost of containing COVID-19 worth the expense? This involves putting a price on human life, suffering, and the cost of long term disability. In addition, because the seriousness of COVID-19 was not known during the initial outbreak, any estimates would have a wide margin for error. However, until we adequately respond to virological threats, we will continue to suffer through outbreaks on a global scale.

The Chinese Communist Party is a political system that derives its power and influence by historical associations and utilization of police power. Please excuse my gross oversimplification. China’s leadership is actively seeking and gaining increased stature in the world community through development of its economic and military systems. China’s leadership system places great effort at maintaining its control, even at the cost of other systems normally associated as beneficial or even critical to the efficient functioning of their entire system. Chinese leadership affects other systems by controlling the flow of information that may be harmful to its image. Sufficient damage to the Chinese leadership’s image could lead to attempts to remove them from power. However, when information is withheld on a system such as COVID-19 that benefits from people remaining in close contact and not utilizing protective measures, then other communities are put at risk. The most telling decision by the Chinese concerning COVID-19 was the decision to lockdown. This decision was made in spite of ongoing economic distress caused by the trade wars and financial distress caused by years of building their infrastructure in advance of immediate needs as well as financial stress caused by speculative borrowing. In this context, the Chinese lockdown decision should have been accorded great weight by the West.

The West, as a system, mistrusts China’s leadership because of its prior conduct. Taking premature actions with a virus of unknown capabilities versus the known astronomical costs that shutting down the economy would entail, a wait and see approach was adopted, allowing the virus to ultimately become a pandemic. The West decided, in effect, to wait for a pandemic to take hold before taking decisive action. Another oversimplification, but close enough for this post. The problem with the West’s system of dealing with infectious diseases is the lack of adequate policy. We have been adversely affected by the introduction of pathogens by nature and are vulnerable to the release of pathogens on purpose. Just as a host can survive an attack by a virus by its immune system delivering and appropriate, but not excessive response, our system needs to have effective policy concerning disease control. As the COVID-19 crisis points out, the robustness of our system has been shown to be woefully inadequate to relatively common occurrences of attack.

The West also relies too heavily on Centralized political leadership for policy, causing responses that do not adequately address the threats that face us. There needs to be a independent authority that has the ability to develop and enforce policy on communicable diseases on a global scale. Effective policy could include global sanitation standards, global communication standards, procedures for rapid deployment of test kits and treatment methods, testing and instruction standards of personal protection equipment, creating policy concerning density of people in confined spaces, and any other reasonable action deemed necessary to minimize our future risk to a threat that potentially could have much higher lethality.

  7. yeah the minute you said CHina values its position in the world and would never do anything to jeapordize its global standing showed that there was pages of fluff with little substance. To quote you:

  8. 1. the West like the U.S. does not have centralized political leadership...we have a 2 party system of federalism that has decision making at the federal and state level or did you miss 5 weeks of governors and Trump fighting over who was responsible for doing what?

    2. WHO is an independent authority that basically was swayed by China and proved their are complete dumbasses to say in January no human to human transmission. How could medical experts be so wrong who were on the ground in China and getting information from teh Chinese government? Because China lied and WHO went for the money.

There are 21 million less cellphone users in China than there was 2 months ago.

Did those people cancel cell service because of job loss or other upheaval in their lives? Or did those 21 million people stop using their phones because they no longer exist?
