its a code red from a few good men. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/9FnO3igOkOk?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You're a hard man, El Cubano. I don't know. The guy was a rookie, didn't know what the limits were, the coaches seemed to be on board with it, then Incognito is making threats against the kid's parents. That's got to be over the top. It's easy to say these guys make a lot of money, but the rookie minimum is only a few hundred thousand, and if you are making the rookie minimum, chances are you're not going to have a long career. Mainly, I blame the coaches and GM. I heard Martin went to the GM, who advised him to fight Incognito. That right there will sink the Dolphins in any court case. I predict a long movie career for Incognito playing psychos and hit men after his playing days are over, which might not be all that far off. I do find it disappointing that Incognito, who is universally regarded as a dirty player and asshole, is coming out of this with some weird macho street cred and this Martin kid is being ridiculed for not being black enough.
I was referring more to the extortion of money. How an unarmed teammate of yours can extort money from a 375 lb man. IN regards to bullying... I agree. Bullying should not be accepted in any level of our society.
Yeah but he threatened Martin's family. Also, he could have used a gun. Look, I doubt any criminal charges are brought. But I bet the Dolphins end up having to pay.
It doesn't sit well with me that Martin and Incognito were considered friends throughout most of the time this alleged bullying was taking place. Martin was in his second year with the Dolphins...he seemed to be o.k. with this stuff for a solid 15 months or so before he decided to break the story. Their teammates, almost unanimously, mention that the two of them hung out together all the time. IMO, what it looks like to me is that Martin went along with it in a somewhat half-assed manner and was too soft spoken or shy to say anything to anyone about the whole thing. A typical passive-aggressive personality at work...then, in one instant, he decides that he can't take it anymore and let's loose the entire ordeal, but makes it look worse than I believe that it was. For instance, that text message with all the threats and racial epithets. Did anyone consider that a message between two friends who had a rapport, it would be a non-event...Teammates mention that Martin passed that one around the locker room and he was laughing at it...THEN 6 MONTHS LATER, he decides to release it to bolster "his case". IMO, this thing is far more bullshit than reality.
bullying by a group of people is beyond hitting back at one guy and it just magically stops. For example you turn your back and you get hit hard you turn around and ask who did it then they point at each other and laugh. Are you going to fight all of them?
Leaving aside the text message and "pranks" they played on Martin, like all getting up when he sat down at a table, the whole locker room culture reflects badly on the team and the coaching staff. I've played on teams where there were cliques and it never helped the team. The best teams I played on, the guys all more or less had each others' backs. Sure, there was a pecking order, but everyone was treated with respect. I don't see how a coach expects to have a good locker room when he lets it run itself like a max security prison. I know for a fact the best coaches don't operate that way. Philbin is history and maybe Ireland too.
some of you in this thread need major work done on your bullshit meters. these two were bros, with incognito basically taking martin under his wing. jonathan martin is a two faced rat. richie incognito will be back next year, and neither philban nor any one else should canned over this. http://thebiglead.com/2014/02/03/he...nito-and-jonathan-martin-allegedly-exchanged/ But what remains to be seen: is the pc addled media going to apologize for trying to wreck this guys career over this garbage?
I am going to man up and say I probably blew this one. Of course, we only have selected texts, those that support Incognito, but the idea that he ran some campaign of harrassment against Martin looks unsupportable. I still say the Dolphins had a poor locker room culture. The type of team leaders you have is more important in the NBA because of the long season and heavy travel, but it is still important in the NFL. A culture that revolves around bars and strip clubs is never going to be optimal. Nor is one that is based on hazing, abusing rookies, etc. Ultimately the coach and GM have to set the tone and weed out the bad apples.
