1. Hi
I am a regular reader of ET though not always
write much.
I have lived in India initially and lived for a long tome in Hong Kong. HK (even though over crowded by main landers after 1997) still has a state of the art public health system.
Singapore is not bad but they charge a bit more than HK. Korea,Phillipines too have a good low cost public health system.
Coming to any expensive treatments (not emergency type) say costing $30-60K and above ,one should take a flight to India ($1200-1500 1 year economy return from USA). But your companion (if you need one) may loose their pay.
South Indian Cities like Hyderabad,Chennai, Bangalore are the best bet with so many corporate style hospitals. When I was in USA for 4 years I had Kaiser in California. Here in India I dont carry any Medical Insurance.
Just out patient treatment- my doctor visit could be as cheap as Rs 100 ($2). All prescription Medicines are the cheapest in the world .(Philippines may be next)
Average hospital stay should cost Rs 1000-1500 ($20-30) per day. A top UK trained surgeon may charge Rs 20-25k ( his private fees) ($400-500)
You can get holiday serviced apartments by the month at Rs 20-25k/month (400-500$)
Lot of UK people who have to wait for too long for surgeries in the free public health care systen come to India for treatment. All the Middle East types land in Bombay for any serious treatment with their harem in tow!
By the way most Indians speak English and professionally educated ones read/write/speak Emglish well. Food is very cheap too.
I trade US markets from India and CHINA/HK /SG(10 days in a month).
Hope this info helps should anyone face bankrupting medical costs!

One thing that I think is going to come out of Detroit is Universal Healthcare or something similar. American manufacturing can not remain competative on a global scale with the healtcare costs that they carry. IF they can create an effecient system it really shouldnt kill the Feds too badly either. At the local, state and federal level American Governments already spend more per capita then Canada on healthcare.

In terms of having to pay up, I had a similar experience, though not exactly the same, as your friend on my little journey. When I had insurance I was treated each time I came in etc etc. Once my insurance ran out though I had to prove to them that I still had the ability to pay. It ended up that someone from the business office of the hospital called my bank to confirm how much I was holding in my checking and savings accounts. I really don't blame them as thats the system we have, if they just take on charity cases then the doors close, but when your in that situation it definatly sucks.

Man when it snows it Iowa, it SNOWS! The last storm we got was a real dud, but this one is making up for it ino spades!!

Thats obviously not the point of this message though. Over the last few days the response I have gotten from the entire Elitetrader community has really warmed my heart. I knew I had a lot of friends here and people who cared for me, I never knew how many though. We always hear people complain about how rude and crude ET can be, but this last week has allowed me to truly see ET at its best. Thank you to every single person who has gotten in touch with me in PM and on the board. What is often seen are the drive by flame fests and political rantings of righty and lefty fantatics, but I got to see the best in everyone here. I will never forget it.

I want to again thank the ET community for their reaching out to me. I think that the best way to thank some traders is to help them, so I have taken some videos I made several years ago, videos that have not been public and will not be and I want to share them with you. They are simply camtasia videos uploaded to an upload page, nothing commerical etc about it for the Department of Internet Consumer Knowledge to worry about. Your not being sold anything, but you are going to be given a lot. I thank you all.

Like I said all these videos are a few years old, I'm not really creating too much new content right now. I trust though that they will all be helpful to those of you who are wanting to learn more about the markets. Thank you again ET.

I dont think there is such a thing as 'efficient' healthcare. It is just a costly expense and has its inherent problems.Just like a teenager going through growing pains-always rough.
Maybe the french system is more efficient than canada's,i dont know.I also dont care because i know the system we have here now is worse and more expensive and morally reprehensible. How can we accept a system that denies care to its people and allow you to die because of money? If we cant defend the health of our people, what is there to defend?
I dont know how many times over we could have had a national healthcare system with just AIG s bailout.

Fifty percent of all bankruptcies are due to people getting hosed on medical costs.

One thing that just illustrates the illogic of our system is that a healthcare company can deny you coverage if you have a pre existing condition. This means that you have no choice but to die if you have had cancer in the past and are not currently a billionaire. This is not healthcare people.Nothing close. The whole concept of healthcare has to change.Currently it is healthbiz not care.

Rant over.

I'll get a reply to you asap l2tradr. I have been amazed at the reply and ourpouring I have gotten from ET, over 300 PMs and emails, plus all of the public messages. Many from people I never knew, others from people who have publically roasted me..all of them very kind. I'm getting healthier and stronger, but I still have a huge problem with anemia which makes me very tired..I'm sleeping about 12 to 14 hours a day which really sucks. I will get to you all though and again thank you. I hope you all get something positive out of the videos I put up as well. They were recorded from a $2000 mentoring program I did "back in the day".

That's not a very good example, at least in my opinion. Obviously you feel terrible for the teenage girl, but the mother has choosen to be homeless for 10 years. (Yes, I think that if you have been homeless for 10 years you are choosing it!) It would be a much more compelling story, one were a reasonable person would feel terrible for both of them, if they had been made homeless by the child's cancer. Sadly though that's not the case, the mother has not taken care of her obligations for 10 years and then they got caught in an even worse situation. It's very sad and I feel terrible for that child, but it's hard to feel the same way for the mom.

That all said Universal Healthcare is coming. It will arrive in America via Detroit and the decling American Manufacturing sector as a bailout of sorts for them to reduce the legacy and current costs.
