Rev. Wright hates America? Why?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by oddiduro, Apr 5, 2008.

  1. Problem is, the right thing is not going to be done. There will be a bailout. That is NOT the right thing.

    That is socialism.

    That won't work long term.

The RIGHT thing would have been to tell these people why they could not get a mortgage at that point in time. Then the individuals, if so inclined, could find the most effective remedy.

Nice try - but it is not me that defends racist, America-haters. Look in the mirror if you want to see one of those... [IMG]

  4. This is not a defense of Rev. Wright, his words can be evaluated by those who wish.

My comments go to the idea of "hating America."

    What is America?

    Is it our current president?

Is it the Americans who are white, red, black, brown, or yellow?

    Is it our Constitution?

    Is it the corporate structure?

    Is it the media?

Is it simply those who have the power to influence and control the lives of others?

    Is it the government?

Is it the current leadership in the government, including all branches of government?

Many times in this forum I've been called by the ET goons a "hater of America" simply because I don't agree with our current administration.

How absurd. This rhetoric of "hating America" is a symptom of the problem itself, black and white all or nothing thinking...

Loving one's country and detesting leadership is patriotic.

If I were to say that I hate the coaching job of the Knicks head coach (Isiah Thomas), does that mean I then hate the Knicks?

No. It actually would mean I love the Knicks, I care what happens to the Knicks and I am frustrated with their coach. However, the coach is not the team, any more than Bush is America (which for the brain dead ET goons, means Bush is not America).

I don't think all that many Americans actually hate America itself in the way the concept is put forth in threads like this.

Those who are most often labeled haters of America hate what those in power do to those who are powerless to stop them...

    Big difference...

Racism is divisive in nature. It creates an us vs. them condition. It unifies the sense of separateness, it increases the us vs. them nonsense. It weakens the country as a whole.

We are all Americans, and the way in which some or many Americans have historically treated other Americans is the problem...

  5. This subprime lending mess is not about racism. It is about banks deciding to give loans to those whos credit was not so good. They made it easy to obtain credit for those already in debt or for those who did not have the income to repay those loans. I really don't think the banks were thinking black, latino, white, asian.. No. Banks made a big mistake by making these loans available in the first place. People (black, latino, white...) who either were uneducated or greedy, or both, took the bait. But all those people certainly must have had bad credit to begin with, and only added to their burden, or these people did not have the income to repay those loans, but signed the papaers anyway becasue they were thinking of today only, and not what happens tomorrow when money comes due. These were subprme loans...what does that say? It says the loans were made to bad credit people. The target of banks was bad credit people...mot blacks. It was not smart or right of the banks to do what they did. If black people want to call that racism and blame someone for their own lack of knowlege about money, or thier desire for something they can not afford but buy anyway, then they will never learn from their mistakes,,,because they want to blame white people again. Its simple. You cannot have a house you cannot afford. You are responsible to figure out what you can afford and if you want more than that, than go back to school and get education to get a better job. Goverment helps pay for school for those with lower income. If you need a loan, than only take as much as you can afford to pay back. It is not free money.

I've never read anything by you that comes across as America-hate, so please do not extrapolate my comments to you. If others have called you an America-hater, then deal with them.

In fact I don't even see odi as an America-hater - although he could very well be. He is just a common, garden variety bigot who has no problem tarring large groups of people based on his own small world, as he did in this thread:

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=122909

But when a preacher like Wright screams God-damn America and thousands of his cultists cheer this on, I would call this America-hate - and indefensible.

  8. My point is that anyone using that type of speech is off base.

I hear just as much ranting and raving from Michael Savage et. al as I do listening to Wright. I hear just as many "mega dittos Rush" as I hear "amens" from Wright's audience.

I don't think Wright actually hates America, nor do I think his congregation hate America.

I think it is a cheap manipulative trick that works on black and white thinkers, this trick works to appeal to the emotions of the listeners who are feeling disenfranchised or unhappy with some political condition, and unfortunately there is a pervasive amount of black and white thinking when it comes to the issue of racism...on both sides of the aisle.

It is scapegoat thinking, and it is both wrong and dangerous.

I am of the belief that any preacher, in any church, of any domination who uses their religious leader position to influence the political process by trying to influence their followers should have their status as a non profit organization yanked immediately.

In earlier times, perhaps the churches were the only place for blacks or white, Jews or Gentiles to meet safely and discuss political issues.

That isn't the case any more. If Wright or others want to meet and discuss politics (racism is 100% about politics because it goes to wanting to impact the life of others because of the condition of others and their inherent physical condition) that's fine by me. Let them meet. Let the people remove any personal religious aspect from their personal political discussions. Hell, it is bad enough when people argue over race, but to get them arguing over both religion and race at the same time? Madness.

However, my vote is that we attempt to stop the mixing of religion and politics all together...or tax them.

If more preachers made their entire focus on their parishioners about being better human beings, how to cope with life's struggles in a spiritual manner, how to look their own sins, and how to be having greater faith in God we would all be better off.

Wright is making an angry appeal to increase the anger of Americans who are feeling that they are not able to participate in the American dream. It is ridiculous to think Wright is hating America, when what he is trying to promote is the ability of his followers to have the American dream.

His method is not helping in any manner, unless he then guides them to use that anger and frustration they feel in a manner that works through the system to overcome their own personal situation.

I don't know anything about Savage, so I won't comment on him. But equating "mega dittos Rush" to Wright's audience saying "Amen" just tells me you have never listened to Rush, and don't know what he stands for, and you don't know what "mega dittos Rush" means.

Whether it is a "cheap manipulative trick" or what I see as America-hate, at least we can agree that it is indefensible... [IMG]

And I agree that their tax exempt status should be pulled.
