    retail sales will be ok because people are starting to recognize that the US dollar is losing value..
     
  4. Here's the Gallup polls numbers for consumer spending they've tracked fairly well to the reports: http://www.gallup.com/Home.aspx

    It seems to be flattening.

    Good news, the Gallup daily poll for hiring/letting go shows more companies hiring than letting go, it's a very informal survey, but it has tracked pretty well, too.

    These surveys are about as leading as I can get as far as economic indicators go, they talk to real people about what is happening as of that day, then report those numbers the next day.

    Of course, that forces the numbers to be a bit informal and there's a lot of noise, but I still think it's useful.
