There will always be people willing to work for money, and restaurant work is one of the more accessible jobs out there. Used to be HS/college student work in the US but kids today are too lazy to work hard for 15 bucks an hour. So now it's immigrant jobs, who left the misery of their home country for the chance of a better life in their new country. It's the same the world over.

A friend of mine works for a labor hire business, day gigs, last minute replacements, etc. He says it's really difficult to get young people to commit to their assignments, even for 20 bucks an hour. They say yes, then hear of a party somewhere and ditch the job... More and more restaurants, caterers, warehouse jobs are contracted out to companies like his, to unload the hr nightmare and OSHA requirements and are willing to pay a 30% premium for it.

A lot of barely educated 16 to 25 year olds like working gigs from time to time around their activities. They'll work 20 to 25 hours a week and make enough money for drugs and beer.

If you are on this board you have a likelihood of being strung up by your fingers and being beaten like a piñata.

The article fails to say that most are finding alternative work as Traders.

Put food service workers on the couch for over a year & shovel more $ at them then they every made & now they don't want to go back - what a surprise.

Pretty sure his point went right over your head.

The point is the government is incentivizing laziness whether they mean to or want to admit it.

If helicopter money is being thrown at you and you can collect it from the couch watching Netflix - why would you clock in somewhere everyday and make less putting up with likely unruly customers / unqualified managers?

    It's pretty black and white.

I drive and do delivery in the evenings when I need cash since the pandemic, pays about 20 bucks an hour on average. Can't sit in front of computer all day, take some fresh air at night.

His point went over my head? Or is it my point that went over yours?

Your point should be acknowledged through common sense - something most people sorely lack.

The point I referenced from @comagnum SHOULD be common sense - but that's a big ask and apparently not the case as per the current "leaders" of the U.S. Brilliant group of minds those guys.

Referencing my statement, if a few hundred government dollars is all it takes for large numbers of people to quit their jobs, it shows me 1. How uncommitted they are to their work and 2. How underpaid they are and 3. How confident they are about finding another job when needed.

But your point isn’t about the economy, it's about some nonsensical anger with the government for handing money out, as if somehow you were deprived of something.
