Well, they have, as part of Windows itself (occasionally, even MS gets something right)... it's called Hibernate, as mentioned earlier. Have you tried it already and decided it doesn't fit your needs?
Thank you vehn for the instructions. Yes I agree, hibernate/stand-by do the job but that is not the issue. Unfortunately some program updates, like anti-virus and other software require a windows startup. I have also been advised that it is healthy for computer systems to be restarted every week or two. And of course the very famous, certain program starts working slow and needs to be re-booted...etc.... Anyways thank you again !!
