It takes a conservative to think that absence of strong unions means good education for students.

Catholic schools generally don't have unions and they turn out better student as a whole than their public school counterparts, with higher grades/marks on the state standardized testing and a higher rate of graduates going on to college. The public school systems encourages apathy both from the teachers (union), because they know there will always be a check waiting for them every other week, and the students who know they will be passed forward whether they deserve it or not.

  8. Once again a great example of the "FOX NEWS" approach to presenting the results. While your technically not incorrect in the way you prop up the "Red" success, I feel you are disingenuous in the way you apply this "Best School" data to claim the entire state of Texas, for example, has the best schools.

In fact, Texas ranked 47th in SAT test scores - besting only North and South Carolina, and Georgia!

Texas graduation rate of 67% lands them at 40th out of all states.

So please take your limited, misleading, misguided, biased interpretation of reality and pawn it somewhere else.

  10. Let's look at SAT scores for a second.

    [IMG]- Source

The problem here is the particpation rate. Not everyone takes the SAT and the more who take it the lower the reported scores become. Looking at Florida's lower scores along with a middle of the road participation rate says what we kinda already know, they're not too bright there.

    Here's graduation rate by state:

Graduation Rates, by State and Race

    Using '08 year, Florida's graduation rate was 66.9%, Texas was 73.1%. NJ 84.6%, MA 81.5%, CT 82.2%.

So NJ, CT or MA with higher SAT scores and higher graduation rates are not among the best? But Florida is??????
