You say it's not existential fear, but what else drives people to build isolated enclaves where they only interact with their own kind? It’s not just about crime, it’s about fear of a changing world, of losing control, of no longer being the unquestioned norm. That’s not social trust, that’s a bunker mentality dressed up as a retirement plan. I don’t worry about things being stolen either, it’s called an apartment building with a security desk, and I didn’t have to retreat from society to get it.
OK, again very unlikely and coming from an arch racist, somebody who believes in racial determinism, you are not a good defence councel. You’re asking me to believe that one of the largest, most carefully marketed retirement communities in the U.S. just happened to end up overwhelmingly white, without intention, without structural factors, and without any social gating? That’s a stretch. I will note something, it has a curious religous demographic. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't this. That's a very low total people identifying with a religeon for the US. I guess geriatric hedonism tops the Jesus game.
What need a couple of 70yo college kids, one "white" and one "black" to run one of those experiments they love to do which reveal blatant racism.
Only in the statistical sense. There are blacks on the far right hand tail of the distribution curve who can do just fine without any help. Unfortunately, the median IQ is around 80, so they are vastly outnumbered.
That's the demographic of people who move to Florida for retirement. The numbers are similar in enclaves like Boca Raton and Naples.
Richard Lynn twaddle. They are for sure above that, I'd say 90 minimum. I live in Colombia so I know what living around low average IQ is like among the older ones, and wherever you get that number from, it is decades old now. The Flynn effect is very real. I have seen it first hand in my decade in Colombia. Though that's true in general, I can also say specifically that my wife's niece, now 11, has benefitted enormously from having my daughter as a role model. Her mother is not stupid, doing a PhD in education now, but not as curious as my wife. Unfortunately the girl has a tragic inherited disadvantage, her biological father is a lawyer, as are most of his family. Role models, nutrition, health and opportunities all matter. Imagine how smart you might have been had you any of these.
