The problem is not the beginning to draft a statement. It is the conclusion therein. As far as giving him an opportunity to answer, he always has one, except his counsel may advise him to remain silent. After all, he already testified before congress that he reached his conclusion after the witnesses were interviewed. His draft letter indicates that he committed perjury. But we all know that he is protected by the FBI/Justice Department Club. Of course since Comey is just an honest, direct, above reproach kind of guy, we know that if he wants to communicate directly about something he will just give it to his friend and have him leak it.
GATEWAY PUNDIT Fmr FBI Asst. Director: James Comey Hillary Investigation a Joke – Her Crimes Would Land the Normal Person in Leavenworth On Friday former FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom said it is obvious that James Comey has been in with the Clintons from the beginning. James Kallstrom: This whole thing was a joke to begin with, this so-called investigation of Hillary Clinton… The fact that a grand jury was never empaneled would tell any investigator, I don’t care if you’ve only been on the job for a day, that this whole thing was not going to be legitimate. And it wasn’t. It was an absolute joke… It makes no sense and he makes no sense. He makes no sense. He was just a total embarrassment. He let the American people down by not looking at these crimes… The crimes would land a normal person in Leavenworth federal prison.
Just another kkk, alt-right guy spouting off. Maybe if he learned a little something about the law and the obligations and duties of the FBI and how a nation of laws works he would not be saying those things. Oh wait, I just saw that he is the former assistant director of the fbi. Nevermind. I think where Kallstrom is going wrong is that he fails to understand that this was never an investigation. It was "a matter." And Comey was the Director of the Federal Bureau of Matters. sigh.
There in lies the problem. We don't all know. We like to think we do, but the entirety of facts and details we don't have access to. We have access to the media, and the media has essentially the same access that we do.
I think Comey was clear about why he did what he did. Perhaps it would be a good idea to review his testimony.
Put me down as being totally familiar with his testimony. He violated department rules and regulations by transmitting information in that manner. But that's fine. He has bigger issues to face now on the public corruption and perjury issues. Let him be clear on that. Especially if it goes to trial. The justice department with its deep staters and conflicted leaders might not press it. But a referral for an investigation from the House Committee is reasonably likely. Or at a minimum requiring him to re-appear before the committee. They are not likely to take being lied to kindly or to overlook the corruption related to reaching an opinion without following proper prosecutorial conduct and ethics.
He wasn't working for the government at that time. A small detail perhaps, but something to consider.
Actually he was. The rules cover any work products developed while in the employ. He was at a government facility, used notes and drafts prepared on government computers, the same documents that were leaked to his buddy. Aside from the legality, pretty trashy behavior for an FBI director- current or former. He should not be setting examples on how to leak, even though he has plenty of experience- no doubt. Once again, having said that, he has committed more serious crimes and that episode should not be used to deflect from them so I am okay to let you be right about all of it. He started with a sterling reputation and worked himself into the toilet. The other matters? He needs to be prosecuted and/or be brought back before the committee so that they can work him over and consider what to do with him.
get the fuck out of here with this none sense. The right can't possibly be rallying behind these talking points?
