Thanks to everyone for their contribution. I come to a conclusion that an office is necessary even if it is only for myself, with no other traders. This is simply down to the human psychology (home=relax, office=stress, focus, attention) and physiology (you get up with a view to go out, you get dressed, drive to work -> your adrenaline levels go up, your pulse goes up; it all helps to maintain focus and not get lazy or bored).
Now I need to find an office no more than 15 minutes from where I live as commuting is probably the major drawback of trading in an office

  3. until volatility dries up for a few months, you'll be scouring through your lease for break clauses and loopholes for cancellation. i hope you get an office with one month's notice!

  4. LOL, Pittsburgh-- that's outrageously priced -- heck, one world trade in NYC is similarly priced--they will be out of business soon---

    - you should be able to rent an entire floor in the USX building for just a little more...

  5. the excitement of going to an office quickly fades--- you will be just as bored in an office as at home over time

Set one up locally to you. All those underutilised shopping malls must have some cheap space in them. Mobile means the costs came way down, no need for a phone system and most of the users will be on wifi.

I actually like the "dedicate one room in the house as office and have 2-3 guys over" idea better. I would try that let's say for a month, and if everyone likes it, keep it going, if not, we would just collectively forget about it...

I went into a REALTORS office , early to day, to ask him about farm acres for sale, several miles from me, curious. He helped me + noticed he had his computer on. I said what is that , 30 minute candle charts ?? He said one minute candles charts + just lost $#### talking to you '' LOL
However i asked him before i stayed ,''can you talk 3 minutes'' he said OK, he remembered me.

Plenty of it depends on the trader/person personality; an introvert like me can be happy reading a good book, splendid solitude. My mom, a great mom[extravert, people person] had to be warned ''best not to just drop by'' . I prefer appointments.......An extravert prefers crowds, but that is not not a prediction

I have an office about ten minutes from my home, but I have a more limited home office with execution and analytics. The gym is halfway between so I make my circuitous route.

The office has significantly better line speeds than I am able to get at home - the management company touts this as a promotion in an area with plenty of commercial space available.

I have worked out of a home office using commercial Comcast broadband - my issue was having family around. IMHO would work better if single.
