Reid âStill Working Onâ Online Poker Bill By Alexandra Berzon Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) hasnât folded yet in his effort to make Internet poker legal, Reid spokesman Tom Brede tells Washington Wire. Mr. Brede said in an email that Mr. Reid is âstill working onâ passing the online poker bill. The email exchange came after the Las Vegas Sun reported earlier Wednesday that Mr. Reid said legalizing Internet poker was no longer an objective during the lame-duck session. Several other people lobbying for the bill said they believe Mr. Reid may still try to get it attached to must-pass legislation. âUntil Congress adjourns I am not saying itâs dead,â said John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance. Mr. Reidâs idea of moving an online poker bill that would heavily favor Nevada casino companies has stirred up a tempest in Congressâs final days. While investors in casinos and slot machines grew excited, several Republican lawmakers disparaged the legislation as preying on âthe weak and the vulnerable.â Las Vegas casino analysts and consultants Union Gaming Group said in a report Wednesday that they estimated the online poker market in the U.S. would be around $3 billion in 2012, with potential to grow much larger; that would translate into more than $1 billion in earnings split among several large casino companies. The largest sums are likely to go to casino giants Caesars Entertainment Corp. and MGM Resorts International, both of which were among Mr. Reidâs top supporters during his fierce re-election fight this year. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/12/08/reid-still-working-on-online-poker-bill/
I'll never spend a cent in Nevada ever again. Reid is the symbol of corruption and his reelection is criminal. Let Las Vegas and the casinos rot.
