axe, pussy, et al, can you explain why succesful, intelligent, and otherwise rational people believe in god if your arguments are water tight ?? best, surf
''I dont believe in the Easter bunny; I AM Jewish!''-Kid quote "I dont believe in the Easter bunny; rabbits are mammels and don't lay eggs. -Believing kid quote ------------------------------ ''The ants are a people not strong , yet prepare thier meat in the summer'' Mind of Solomon, believing Semetic trader-king.
stu, Trading and religion have nothing to do with each other. I have my religious beliefs, but I don't let them interfere with my life. That might sound a bit ass backwards, but I guess the only way to explain it is that, in my honest opinion, if we are here for a reason, it is to do the things we love to do and think over religion occasionally and how it reflects on our lives. However, some people become consumed with religion and that is the first stage of becoming a fanatic. God, if he exists, probably likes to have a good time, too. I'm sure he is much more tolerant and forgiving of our nature than many religions suggest.
Cool aphie, I wouldn't - couldn't disagree with that. But it's not what I asked , nevertheless, you make great posts keep it up .......and good luck to you
thanks for the response--so they can think rationally in all other aspects of life but for some reason their intellect fails them in this regard. do i understand you correctly ?? best, surf
every man has the ability to think rationally. whether or not we choose to exercise that ability is up to us. given the haphazard way many of our beliefs are formed when we are children, it is almost a certainty that the most critical of us have some irrational beliefs. reading books and iteracting with other intelligent, "rational" people is a great way to stimulate yourself to examine some of your longest held beliefs and see whether they are rational or not. in the case of religion, it is not so much a case of their "intellect faling" them, rather they choose not to think critically on the issue of god (and for good reason - their god is conceived as an everpresent being who knows all their thoughts).
If we want to take this to the extreme, "we" don't know he exists in any form. All that I know is that I think and that I exist.
