Man has created religion to give affirmation and reason for his existence in this world. Religion, to paraphrase John Campbellâs âThe Power Of Mythâ is the software, the operating system that runs our hardware. What is perfectly good for one is useless for another. It doesnât matter which myth you select to believe in as long as itâs compatible with your hardware. If God is invisibly omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient then no being less than God can prove or disprove His existence.
Gekko wrote:>i want to ask the religious people here a serious question... who created jesus? if you say his mother, who created his mother? how ever far back you guys can go, i want to know how the first got there.< The fact is, we may never know. He is almighty, the creator of all things. There is certainly more to"where did god come from". However, maybe it's FAR beyond our comprehension. That is the fact and you have to trust and believe. If you can't do that, well beat yourself up your entire life trying to master your own universe.
Also, Jesus was created by the holy spirit, not by man. Although he was a man with human flesh and desires, he was God himself. That's a fact. No one over comes death as he did.
The ET award goes to ANCHOR. He very articulately addressed all questions for those who really wanted answers. Those who do not, well, they never wanted any answers to begin with.
beat myself up? i actually love thinking about it! i am free to enjoy the WONDERS of life, unlike you, since you are accepting the bible's explanation of everything.
Dinosaurs on the ark?? Oh man, this thread has gotten SILLY!!! thanks for the laugh though---- you guys crack me up. Reading this thread makes me think of the cargo cults of the South Seas in WWII. The tribal islanders were cut off from the rest of the world, they were true primitive people. During the war US aircraft began flying over their island, sometimes a supply plane would see people or at least evidence of people (trails and huts) and accidently drop supplies by parachute thinking they were our troops. The supplies would be food spam, chocolate, flour ect.... The people had NO idea what was going on, they quickly assumed that these were giant flying gods that gave them these wonderful things. After the war researchers went to the islands to study the tribes that lived there and found this new belief had taken over the people. They now worshiped the gods by building giant replicas of C47's and B24's to please the gods and try to get them to return. This just shows you that it is human nature to attribute things we do not understand to "GOD". "If God did not exist it would be necessary to invent him"-Voltaire
GREAT POST breakin! yes, dinosaurs were said to be on the ark..lmao "Question: "I think your site is great. I just have a question though. When I tell all my friends about the dinosaurs in the Bible and how they were on Noah's Ark, some ask how the big ones (like Brachiosaurus) can fit on the ark." Joyce (age 15) 8/15/01 Many kids and even adults ask me this question. Many people do not realize just how big the ark was, or how small some of the dinosaurs were. If we keep these 2 things in mind, it is not a problem at all." http://www.angelfire.com/mi/dinosaurs/dino_ark.html oh yeah, not at all! p.s. there were only 8 people on the boat feeding all the animals for 371 days.. lol and the size of the ark was 45 feet tall, 75 feet wide, and 450 feet long. what a joke....
OK . I guess it is time to settle this once and for all. I have PROOF that God exists. Ready Gordon? Right after 9/11, I was in NY with my wife. When we were getting ready to go to the airport to return to Florida, my wife asked me where my flight itinerary was. I had left it in our hotel room in manhattan. At this time we were at her brothers house on Long Island. Now it is hard to describe my wife, but suffice it to say she is rather tough (a lawyer, a corporate exec., a politician). Her brother and his wife knew I was a dead man. I mean she was really pissed. Thought I wouldn't be able to get on the plane. No ticket (...e-ticket), and no travel itinerary. We get to LaGaurdia, and they had just resumed curbside check in. So I just showed my drivers license to the porter who takes our luggage. He gives me a boarding pass. But low and behold, my wife does not have her drivers license. No picture ID. She now gets hysterical. Can't get on the plane, can't do anything. They won't even take her luggage. So I try and reassure her that we will work something out. Finally, maybe 20 minutes later, she realizes her license is in her luggage. Bottom line...she gets away with spacing out her license. I get away with leaving my itinerary in the hotel room. Now if everything had gone the opposite way....if I was at the airport without a drivers license, she would have killed me. I would be dead, she would be in jail, and our children's lives would have been ruined. But it was the other way around. (her brother still breaks my chops for taking "the high road"). So there HAD to have been divine intervention. Only an act of God could have created this situation. Proof! rs7
I just do not understand how christians on this site can be so literal in their reading of the bible--to go so far as to say the earth was made in 7 days and there were dinosaurs on the ark---but still think it is OK to trade and be involved in the world of finance when it is stated so specificly that you should not take out a loan or charge someone any intrest. Here is catholic law on the subject---- The 12th canon of the First Council of Carthage (345) and the 36th canon of the Council of Aix (789) have declared it to be reprehensible even for laymen to make money by lending at interest. The canonical laws of the Middle Ages absolutely forbade the practice. This prohibition is contained in the Decree of Gratian, q. 3, C. IV, at the beginning, and c. 4, q. 4, C. IV; and in 1. 5, t. 19 of the Decretals, for example in chapters 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, and 13. These chapters order the profit so obtained to be restored; and Alexander III (c. 4, "Super eo", eodem) declares that he has no power to dispense from the obligation. Chapters 1, 2, and 6, eodem, condemns the strategems to which even clerics resorted to evade the law of the general councils, and the Third of the Lateran (1179) and the Second of Lyons (1274) condemn usurers. In the Council of Vienne (1311) it was declared that if any person obstinately maintained that there was no sin in the practice of demanding interest, he should be punished as a heretic (see c. "Ex gravi", unic. Clem., "De usuris", V, 5). In plain language---if you had been involved in charging intrest at all you would be punished as a heretic!! (excomunicated, denyed the last rites and therefor been condemed to HELL for eternity!!) THIS IS WHAT WE DO AS ACTIVE TRADERS! how can it be ok to do it today??? WE ARE THE MONEY CHANGERS-- we basicly do the same thing as the money changers that jesus drove out of the temple with a whip! how you can trade on monday and go to church on sunday is beyond me! I guess you can justify anything if it feels good
