What a strange conclusion aphexcoil, You talk as if everything has stopped at the here and now and science has run out of ideas on how to solve seemingly intractable problems. Scientists have given up on quantum physics and string theories have they? What makes you think it's all over then? There is no justifiable reason to assume that such research can go no further. There's no full circle here. Just newer beginnings to greater understandings. I would suggest you think again. A simplistic description on a fragment of quantum physics doesn't account for an "undeniable essence". If your own perception of reality, being anecdotal and probably drug induced from what you say, leads you to assume the existence of a "super-essence" then you can have as many of these personal gods as you like, but that's your reality and bears no connection to scientific progress or to what actual reality may be.
I'm not always very good at writing coherant well structured posts on the fly -- so please forgive me if I skipped around. I don't believe that science has run out of ideas, but it is reaching a point where a lot of what we once believed to be true is either not entirely that way or completely wrong to begin with. However, this doesn't mean we are going to abandon classical science anytime soon. Just for the record, I'm not here to prove or disprove god's existence. However, the mere fact that we are here and apparently sentient of ourselves and our surroundings suggests, at least to me, that their was some cause to our existence. If however, like quantum physics might suggest, reality isn't based on cause and effect, then perhaps our existence is based on some more absurb principles. Can you really prove anything? Can you prove that we are all real or that you are real? How do you know that your entire life isn't just a nice and elaborate dream? Science is reaching a limit in my opinion, but it isn't quite there yet.
Well Aphe I don't know about that. Science must have been reaching its limits since science began. Also the Matrix analogy doesn't appeal to me I must admit. If someone thumps you in the face you will know the reality of that event, is my preferred outlook. If when thumped you believe you can't prove you've been thumped then perhaps a psychiatric hospital would be the next best step towards understanding reality. To say something is the case because something else can't be proved, can hardly be a statement of logical relation. Sentience and consciousness doesn't logically lead to there being a superior creator. The cause of my existence is rationally explained with biological science (and by my parents). The reason for it is also adequately understandable once ego and a feeling of ones own superiority and self importance is left out of such considerations. But all this does go far away from the Existence or Absence of God. I recall daniel_m attempting to first make the god protagonists define which or what they were referring to. I think only thunderbolt comes through as having a biblical god, others seem to define a god as a choice between many things which, like thunderâs god, are normally found resident within a childlike imagination.
Have heard some people say you can prove the existence of God with one word. ISRAEL Certainly you could find God by serious study of Israel .[Old Testiment or enough history] Some can't find the Lord like a crook can't find a cop. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Star wars trend -'' the stars in thier courses [spheres] fought.''
All atheists are hypocrites. If you absolutely believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is no God, then you have a totally unprovable belief system. Nobobdy can ever know if there is a God or not using pure logic. Many have tried over the ages and it has all been a waste of time. This isn't a debate because all of the logic presented is really just belief in disguise. You can't prove that there is a God. You can't prove that there isn't a God. Get over it.
Good point. However, Jesus said in not so many words, if you abide in me and I abide in you, then I will manifest myself unto you. That's all the proof anyone should need.
If you think atheists think they can prove god doesnt exist, in general, then you dont know what an atheist is. Better go back and read the thread to find out. You cant prove unicorns dont exist either, but does that make it rational to think that they do? No. Rational people have no reason to believe in god. They dont have to prove that he doest exist. If you dont believe in unicorns, then you are an a-unicorniest. If you dont believe in god, you are an a-theist. If you think god and unicorns MAY exist, but dont BELIEVE in them because there is a lack of evidence, then you are still an atheist or a-unicorniest. There is nothing to "get over". Atheism is NOT a belief system. It is simply a LACK of belief. Theism, to be specific. You were BORN an atheist, by definition, since you had no knowledge of any gods. You were NOT a hyposcrite at birth either. Atheists are not hypocrites in any way, hope this makes it clear as to why. peace axeman
Yeah... thats what happens when someone new jumps in the middle without reading the previous posts. Same old arguments, all over again. peace axeman
I'll take axeman's logic any day. I'd bet a hymn sheet to a unicorn that Jesus would have too. (if he had been a little more rational that is)
