Regarding the Existence or Absence of God

  1. Axeman,

I have to concur. All these side arguments, however stimulating, interesting and exciting are not getting us any nearer to the truth of the basic question. We can continue attempting to score points, but the real issues are:

    Does god exist?

If so then what is god like?

And in truth I don't think anyone would disagree that the only way to get the true answer to the questions above is directly from god. Now I didn't say directly from "religion", as if "religion" were a monolithic "thing", I said directly from god. So how would god communicate with us?

God could communicate with us individually.

God could communicate with us through a spokesman, such as a prophet.

God could communicate with us through records made by his spokesmen, such as scriptures.

You may ask, if god really wanted us to know he exists and what he is like, then wouldn't he communicate to us through all three methods? I'd have to agree that the answer is yes and this is precisely the reason why I believe that god exists. The point of this post isn't to prove or to try to convince any of the unbelievers that god exists, just to explain very succinctly why I believe he exists and that to me this is very rational.

I have gained more understanding and a better appreciation for the atheist views from reading through the arguments in the past few dozen pages or so. I hope you feel the same way about the theist view.

  2. "God could [and does] communicate thru scriptures''- Tripack

Lord mostly speaks thru Scriptures; you can hear him thru a cartoon also.[Superbook,TBN]

LUV that little cartoon of that Hebrew teen when David slingshot that uncircumcised Philistine-Goliath. ''I come to you in the name of the LORD of Hosts[angel armies], the God of the armies of Israel...''

    ------------------------------

    P.S. If any one dares to spend time in the word of the LORD of Hosts[angel armies];

    [p.] You know its powerful.
You know it sharp.' For the word of God is quick[alive],and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword''=HEBREWS 4:12

  3. Well.... to be honest, since I was a theist, and I have heard
all of these arguments before, I havent learned very much,
but im glad that you did.

It's easier to see the whole picture if you can step back
from an unbiased point of view.

I think that if an intelligent alien came to our earth,
looked around, and observed all the thousands of
religions that man has created, he would conclude
that christianity (or any other religion for that matter),
is no better than the rest. I think it would be pretty obvious
to him that these religions were all MAN created things
    for a variety of reasons.

Just my opinion, not something I can debate.

  8. Surf,

    You cant be serious :D

    Did you READ that website??

    It states:

Evolution is presented in our public school textbooks as a process that:

    1. Brought time, space, and matter into existence from nothing.
    2. Organized that matter into the galaxies, stars, and at least nine planets around the sun. (This process is often referred to as cosmic evolution.)
    3. Created the life that exists on at least one of those planets from nonliving matter (chemical evolution).
    4. Caused the living creatures to be capable of and interested in reproducing themselves.
    5. Caused that first life form to spontaneously diversify into different forms of living things, such as the plants and animals on the earth today (biological evolution).

This persons money is completely safe because he has
CHANGED the definition of evolution to include many
    unprovable things.

If he actually had ANY CLUE what evolution was,
this person (fool) and his money would be quickly parted.

I would love to see him offer $250K for empirical evidence
of EVOLUTION, and not some ridiculous garbage he made up.

The guy doesnt even tell you HOW to submit your evidence.
That web page is full of misleading information.

It is basically one giant Straw Man argument.
