I don't think they're doing it to stick it to Trump at all. I think the fear from Covid was based on faulty data, continued to drive fear based on the continuation of the presentation of faulty data - mainly due to an inability to handle a new pandemic and poor leadership by the WHO and the CDC. The result is an overblown, overhyped result we have that drove public policy and the shutdown of the world and essentially now that some truth is starting to come out (UK death statistics are being questioned, for example) and people are getting wise to it, the massive effort to prevent "egg on the face" of governments worldwide will be a monumental effort.
The EU has its own CDC. The non-English speaking countries are quite well isolated from the trumper bullshit.. Mind you I had to threaten to break the legs of a hospice guest's son last week for repeatedly trying to evangelise and sell MMS to patients and families. The "UK death statistics" (English, not the whole UK) are classic of trumpers turning a minor thing into propoganda. A misrepresentation of the initial reason for counting deaths this way and the actual impact on numbers anyway. Team America 2 : Covid-19 insanity
And when temps and bodies start dropping again in fall/winter and Chumpie is out of office the wingnuts will start believing the data and .... blame Biden naturally.
In North Carolina at the state level they are already looking at which K-12 end-of-grade tests they should not do this coming school year and which should remain in place. They expect the scores to drop -- assuming kids spend at least half the school year remote. Maybe if they are back in school full-time starting in January they will be able to effectively recover the situation by "teaching to the test".
Just curious, but if (when) Biden is elected and you start to see all the articles saying things like "Scientists find in new study that Covid is not a deadly as thought" or "New study from (insert medical experts) shows Covid far less contagious than previously known"...will you change your tune or make excuses? honest question.
All I can tell you - and this is anecdotal data - is my 12 year old who always gets A's dropped big time in the last semester "at home learning". He actually got a C. Lost his computer privileges because of it! All my friends had similar stories on their children.
Science fiction writers have mused on the first questions we should ask aliens if we had a chance. One popular one I recall was "How did you get through your nuclear age without destroying yourselves?" I was thinking today we might better ask, "How did you get past your social media age without destroying yourselves?"
