Just to show how (deliberately) complex the problem is, here is an article about just the word "natural" alone, that magic word that consumers take for granted and love to see on the labels at the supermarket: http://grist.org/food/is-the-natural-label-100-percent-misleading/ As to the famous or infamous FDA, here are some sobering and eye-opening facts: http://www.naturalnews.com/042562_total_corruption_drug_companies_fda_advisory_panels.html Think these people give a hoot about our health or what we are really eating/drinking or taking as "medications"? Think again my friend...
foraged Sicilian figs from the trees on the side of the road - 100% natural once you wipe of the bird crap and taste fantastic with blue cheese, honey, parma ham and red wine.
If I put a 100% natural scorpion venom on your hamburger, would you still eat it, because it's... "natural"? No, of course not. And yet, those big food companies are just playing with the word "100% natural". Do some serious digging and you will soon find out that the ingredients used are anything but "natural".
yep those big food companies planting trees on the side of the road should be ashamed of themselves.....of course i did not read the label too closely but you do understand what foraging is right.... I bet if they pickled those scorpions, added some arsenic and ginger they would fly right off the shelves ....
Florida's Natural no pulp with the GREEN top on the carton. Only one ingredient listed. Wanna guess what that would be? Hint: poj You think the other oj companies might be a bit upset if Florida's Natural was not listing the proper ingredients on their labels??? Go to the store to see for yourself.
My dear BSAM, ALL orange juice producers (Florida's Natural included) list "orange juice" as ingredient, what do you expect? But what they don't tell the public is that they do add "other things" in the final product. Again, read "Squeezed: What You Don't Know About Orange Juice" to get the facts Ever wonder why their products taste so "fresh" and "natural"? It's due to all the additives they add in the process, without telling the public but with full FDA approval. Because if you think orange juice producers just Squeeze oranges and immediately put the juice in a container for supermarket distribution you are terribly wrong!! Again, here is the ONLY way to get fresh, natural orange juice (assuming the oranges are organic) : Do NOT let any company "process" your food or beverage, make everything at home, end of story.
From the book's jacket: Squeezed: What You Don't Know About Orange Juice: Close to three quarters of U.S. households buy orange juice. Its popularity crosses class, cultural, racial, and regional divides. Why do so many of us drink orange juice? How did it turn from a luxury into a staple in just a few years? More important, how is it that we don’t know the real reasons behind OJ’s popularity or understand the processes by which the juice is produced? In this enlightening book, Alissa Hamilton explores the hidden history of orange juice. She looks at the early forces that propelled orange juice to prominence, including a surplus of oranges that plagued Florida during most of the twentieth century and the army’s need to provide vitamin C to troops overseas during World War II. She tells the stories of the FDA’s decision in the early 1960s to standardize orange juice, and the juice equivalent of the cola wars that followed between Coca-Cola (which owns Minute Maid) and Pepsi (which owns Tropicana). Of particular interest to OJ drinkers will be the revelation that most orange juice comes from Brazil, not Florida, and that even “not from concentrate” orange juice is heated, stripped of flavor, stored for up to a year, and then reflavored before it is packaged and sold. The book concludes with a thought-provoking discussion of why consumers have the right to know how their food is produced.
My dear brother X... The good news is that you are 99% correct. The good news also, is that Florida's Natural with the GREEN NO PULP top on the carton contains no additives.
