The building across the alley from my bedroom has blue-green windows and they reflect blue-green light into my apartment in the evening.
Barnes & Noble getting slammed after Liberty Media sells most of its stake. They also gave up their board seats. The CEO of Barnes & Noble says that this will give him greater flexibility in running the company. Barnes and Noble is the only large chain bookstore left in the USA now. I went to one of their large ones (the ones with music and gifts and a large selection of books) on a Friday during business hours and it had a fairly large crowd in it. That may not be the most thorough analysis, but it was not a ghost town like you would expect to see in a dying store. Years ago when newspapers were in decline, Carlos Slim bought a huge bond issue from the NYT. I thought it was the stupidest thing he could have done, I thought he must be out of touch - some rich old billionaire who thought newspapers were still relevant. He made his money back plus interest, but more importantly, he saw a business opportunity where most people thought there was none. Is that the case with this bookstore now? I really want to scoop up BKS on this dip, but for me to do that I would have to admit to myself that I'm wrong about printed books, that they are on the way out. Just like I thought newspapers were on the way out and there was no way to make money on them.
