Another dumb question from me. For years schools emphasize "Spanish". Everybody has to take spanish. Question I have is this: Do Spanish speaking people have something to say that I need to know? Am I going to miss out on some epiphany or revelation cause I can't speak and understand Spanish?
In Canada we have the same thing with French. We have two official languages, English and French. They force us to learn French in school up until grade 9, even though the province of Quebec is the only province that uses the damn language.
I thought Quebecois and French -French were basically mutually unintelligible? Reminds me of a doco with Antonio Banderas in it, his first hollywood movie role he learned his English lines phonetically. Curious thing he said about English, I have to a paraphrase of course, but something like "Spanish, you speak. One speaks Spanish. But English speaks you." Not real sure what he meant.
Oh this is simple. If you graduate Harvard and speak English AND use the word "y'all" when you're President = English speaks you.
