RAN have really let themselves go since the OP started this thread. The guy who does it in the morning (I don't know any of their names), and has been there for years, is still v. good... but alot of good analysts have left (one english, one american, left ages ago) and they seem to have a new guy on the squawk every 3 months. It's at the stage now where there are guys reading out headlines and not understanding WTF they mean (or sometimes even how to read them), one guy sensationalises pretty much every thing he says (like 1% up or down, or which sectros are leading and lagging), they squawk out their guesswork behind whatever they think will happen (such as "stocks not looking like they will recover" 2hrs before the close), another squawks out stupid stuff like TICK extremes or inverted head and shoulders, or reads out the whole COT report, and the guy in the TOS chatroom is now even calling out trades on the ES based on a double bottom from a tick chart. Now I sorta sympathise for these guys, because they are only doing what they think a good analyst does... but look, an analysts job is to assimilate information, provide a context, and deliver it quickly and accurately. It's not an analysts job to call out trades, or squawk out useless information, or - in some cases - the blatant guesswork/opinion of a total n00b. They used to be right up there, but for anyone trading US instruments there are much better squawks out there now.
Thanks. I've used Firstcall in the past and thought they were ok,got better over time I felt. I'm going to give brokertalk a trial I think,I'll let everyone know how I got on.
Right, these are just a few examples of what I'm talking about... taken from the TOS chat... 12:32 ransquawk: buying a $300 dip is pretty brave 12:32 ransquawk: but then again... only the brave get paid ... and wrt. FT Alphaville... 13:43 ransquawk: love alphaville 13:44 ransquawk: the chat they have everyday is essential viewing 13:44 ransquawk: we get some good stuff on it 13:44 ransquawk: and it move european markets, stocks and currencies ... so "only the brave get paid" (WTF?) and MarketsLive is market moving newswire... LOL there are plenty of example like this (such as re-iterating Jim Cramers calls on Gold) which show that most of the people behind the scenes there are pretty green. Now look, if anyone of the newer guys at RAN pick this up - or, even, the guy who is in the TOS chat, this is not a personal attack on you - it is just obvious that you are still new to the markets and are being given pretty piss poor training. If I were you I'd pick an asset class and learn all you can about it in whatever spare time you have. Show some initiative and get your boss to pony up and send you on some training, like one of the ITC courses for example, get some bloomie training, and use what you learn in your role at RAN, instead of the banal commentary that you do now.
I don't want to be mean, but this is what I'm talking about 14:33 ransquawk: got the fakeout 14:34 ransquawk: on the OR 14:34 ransquawk: seeing if there is any momentum 14:34 ransquawk: holding 1210 is key for a move higher Now look, that is just 100% unadulterated opinion, and tbh not particularly interesting, insightful, and frankly bullshit. Nobody gives a shit about 1210 mate, you just show how little experience you have. Again, not exactly your fault, but at least now you know. Find a proper analysts and you'll see how much there is to learn.
Yeah, I've listened to the RANsquawk feed a bit and I have to say I would never pay for it. I get the impression that some of their squawkers are very inexperienced. (Morning guy isn't bad.) I guess it makes sense, though. RANsquawk is a pretty small company (read: doesn't have much cash) so I'm guessing they can't pay out to attract the best and the brightest.
I agree with the OP. I have tried around 5 different Squawk providers, many do indeed state stupid facts/headlines.Even one of the providers Shouted out of the Mic some news informing us that Whitney Houstons funeral will be shown via the Internet.WTF!?? I agree that a good Squawk is valuable, but I dont like that fact that many of the guys that provide the service are failed ex traders ( like many of Risk/Trader Manager/Mentor positions at Arcades " Cant do it , teach it " etc) What service is generally considered the best within the Industry? Many Thanks
