RAM

  1. Greatballs have you turned off Virtual Memory?
Normally if you don't have enough memory -your computer borrows from the harddrive. This is one of the slowest processes a computer can do, but it allows you to keep going if your memory is used up.

  2. GB -

Are you using W95, W98, or WMe? If so, that could be your problem. They use a limited, fixed sized resource pool that doesn't get any bigger even with more RAM. I've heard the IB software consumes a lot of resources. If you combine that with what Datek and your datafeed software consume, maybe you're just exhausting that limited resource pool.

Additionally, the W9x/WMe systems use primative memory management and multitasking subsystems which means you're undoubtedly not getting full benefit or use out of your processor and memory.

The W9x/WMe systems were designed for home hobbiests not for professional grade usage (which trading falls into). You might want to consider upgrading to Windows 2000.

  5. Greatballs I'll reply later to show you how to check virtual memory later

The thread previous this one-- if you are running Windows2000 than it's rather easy to check resources. Go to the toolbar on the bottom of your screen. Right click on it and choose task manager. Go to the Performance Tab.

    GreatBalls

I have Win 2000 on one computer, and the only problems I've run into have been compatability ones. (With a couple software programs, and also with my sound card.) I have Win NT on my main computer, and I would have it on both computers if it weren't such a pain in the ass to go from 2000 to NT. I personally wouldn't think twice about switching from '98 to NT because of stability and because of the superior memory management capabilities. I really don't see what advantages Win 2000 has over Win NT, so I wouldn't wait until their second edition; I'd just upgrade to NT. FWIW

your login problems with Datek and IB must be of a different nature. I'm right now logged in to both - IB's JavaTWS and Datek account through their website.

No Problems at all. Used also QT for Datek-Login - no problem either.

So I'm sorry, but I can't help you on this problem.
