This was DOZUs theory. We will end up with 5 big companies and everyone on UBI. 3 mega rich trillionaires and everyone else sucking on the nip.

A big part of the problem is the "winner-take-all" nature of that internet. The internet has only been mainstream for the last 25 years, so from a historical perspective, we are still very much in the early innings and therefore it should be expected that regulatory changes will be needed as time goes on and we learn from our mistakes. US history is littered with examples of mistakes make in the early years of new industries.

I think a big issue with tech-commerce is that there is no actual physical real estate like we have been used to with businesses for last 500 years preceding the age of the internet.

Physical real estate is great because it places easy barriers between business, the consumer, and the competing business. In other words - I own this oil well, you own that billboard sign, he owns that gas station, she owns that grocery store. In our physical world the borders and boundaries can all be nicely divided and respected, and the physical space has a price tag associated with it.

With the internet however, none of this exists. If you own a small taxi company in the physical world, Uber and Lyft can now reach right over your "fence" from the digital world and pounce on your customers and steal them from you. This has created situations where tech giants have achieved massive scale so quickly, and small businesses are left to wither as physical barriers no longer protect their investments/businesses.

One wonders if the internet digital space needs to have some barriers put up - in other words, internet real estate, where tech companies only have access to customers in their own region. I know the point I'm making is kinda abstract, but you get what I am saying.
