He might have meant that you can program your own studies and strategies etc. People do lots of that and there is an active group of them sharing their work etc.

I was told late last year that TD is stopping support on 3 of its current products:

    - QT
    - StrategyDesk
    - Advanced Analyzer

I find all 3 to be terrific in their niches. I was also told that they will be investing a lot in ToS, and some sort of replacement product, which will incorporate the features of the above 3.

We all know that this will never happen, and TD is throwing their money behind ToS. I am not an options trader, so I cannot evaluate their options platform adequately, but the rest of their product is mediocre at best, IMO. Additionally, I use Wealthlab via QT to IB, to do some real time analysis. If the IB changes its interface to existing QT protocol, I'm doubly screwed.

Getting back to the OP's comment, it would be great if Jerry (and team) could buy QT back to support it, at least feed-wise. To let it whither away and die, is almost criminal. But then again, why would TD allow for a competing product to continue on...........due to their large investment ($ 600 MM+), they'll use a sledgehammer if they have to, to make things work with this platform. A real poor decision by TD. They obviously don't have a clue when it comes to trading and technology, and someone up the chain made a horrible investment on "their future".

Like for Quote Tracker, TDAT will also be "the end of the line" for TOS. It will take about two or three years for the stupid top management of TDAT to kill TOS.

  4. I have been trying out charting packages since I heard this sad news.

I tried Sierra, NeoTicker, Multicharts and Ninja.
AmiBroker I had already known a bit, having played around with it some years ago.

Now I decided to stay with AmiBroker and pay for the professional version.
I trade with IB, so the price is about the same as it has been the yearly fee with QT.

The RT charting part in itself is nothing as good as with QT, but acceptable. But I really
love the flexibility that one gains with the powerful AFL language. In the end it more than compensates for the more difficult charting interface IMO.

The software is very efficient, super fast and seems to have almost unlimited possibilities.
The only other I liked out of of those I tried, was NeoTicker.
It is an excellent piece of software, but does not run on Linux (neither does MultiCharts or Ninja).
And for what I've seen AB is much faster, for only a fraction of the price.

But of course, NeoTicker would need much more time to familiarize with than what I had; so I guess there must be possibilities to run it faster, if one takes the time to learn how it really works.

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

When you say "faster" what activity do you refer to? Adding a data series to a chart, adding an indicator to a chart, downloading historical data from the datafeed, something else?

I have been trying out MultiCharts. I think this might be the right choice for many who have used QT. Looking pretty good.

I will be buying in a few days when my trial runs out. It's the next best thing to QT I've found.

Now here's the thing. For those of us who love QT and are going to move to MultiCharts we need to get right on the ball and make lots of feature requests so that MultiCharts will become as good as QT in time. I've got a sixteen item list ready to go. Gonna be a lot of work explaining myself but they write on their website they want feedback so here's our chance.

The biggie for me is the quote panel with histogram in the last price column. No other charting package has such an animal. No other software allows me to see so clearly INSTANTLY the strength of the market and where each stocks are in their daily range. It's such a coup that I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it. Without it I am almost blind in comparison when I view other scanners or quote boards. So I'll be asking for that right near the get-go.

  10. Good luck.

Over quite a long time the main experience I had with support teams is:

Their most important tool is the wastebasket.

No matter what they claim on their websites.
