I got a patch from TDA: qtfix.zip, compressed (zipped) Folders. I clicked extract all files with destination as C:/program files/Quotetracker. But it tells me: "Compressed (zipped) Folders was unable to create the specified directory. Ensure that the directory does doe already exist, and that the path entered is valid". Must I first remove another directory, I am not getting the option to overwrite it, and how do I remove it. What steps do I do now to install the patch.
Someone should set up a way so we could pay the man that fixed this for us so he will be there the next time we need him. We could all kick in a five or ten for saving the day.
Create a temporary folder to extract the qtfix.zip files into. Once they are all extracted copy them from the temporary folder to the QuoteTracker folder. Also, make sure that QT is not running when you copy the files.
"The man" is quietly watching what is going on, and has been for some time. Just think of him as a lifeguard overseeing the community pool. He speaks from time to time, otherwise remains quiet, and watching. If TD Ameritrade is truly going to mothball "their" version of QT, it will appear again, in a somewhat different form. Somebody put a great deal of effort into QT over many, many years, and most likely does not want to see it end up in a landfill. Particularly since it seems to remain quite popular with a loyal following. I think this will work out for the best in the long run. Step back and read between the lines. The story then becomes clearer.
Who has been hanging around this message board these last few years giving advise? Who created the patch? Who probably got a boatload of cash, yet still seems involved and cares about users of the product? Need I say more?
While I think that is speculation, I am sure it will take someone not under a non-compete contract to write/own a new program that will meet the needs of current QT users as well as future users that subscribe to the new program. We can hope for a solution in the future.
