Could you need to change your file options settings to show hidden and protected files during the overwrite/replace step? maybe disable anti virus? Could you need to be logged on as administrator? QuoteTracker Program is closed and not running? I am sure someone here will know what you need to do.

Assuming you are logged in to Windows with an administrator account... the 'Access Denied' appears when a file (or files) is in use when you attempt to replace it. QT can not be running when you try and update the files. If it is, exit QT and try again. If that doesn't work, reboot the computer, then try updating the files.

If you are not logged into Windows with an administrator account, log out and then log back into the administrator account, then try updating the files.

  8. Ydfah thanks so much for your help on this. I emailed ameritrade and heard nothing and then luckily remembered this board. What kind of outfit is that especially since I pay them a boatload in commissions each year

Then something has to be wrong with how the permissions are set for the QuoteTracker folder. I am running QT on Vista with IE7 as the latest browser and the update went in without any issues.

    Nope, see my post above.

Try this: Extract the files from the qtfix.zip archive into a temporary folder. Then copy the files from the temporary folder to the QT folder a couple at a time. This way you might be able to narrow down exactly which file or files are causing the problem.

Before doing that you should backup the entire QT folder by copying it somewhere else. This way if something goes wrong you can copy the original files back and nothing will be lost.

As a last ditch effort, restart the computer in Safe Mode then copy the files from the temporary folder to the QT folder. Once the copying is complete, reboot and QT should work with the update.
